Jersey outlook: N.J. is expected to showcase some of its top sprint talent at Franklin Field this weekend, with the 4x100 relay taking center stage. Winslow’s squad, consisting of Karon Ali, Cameron Miller, Nyquir Helton, and Jayden Poteat, currently leads the state with a time of 42.00. With the stakes high, expect them to go sub-42. Poteat, the team’s anchor, is also recognized as one of the state’s premier all-around sprinters, having recently won sectional and state titles during the indoor season.
Bergen Catholic will make its season debut, featuring a strong lineup led by seniors Andrew Jeremiah Boakye and Nicholas Shortridge. St. Peter’s Prep follows closely behind, ranking second in the state with a time of 42.19 seconds, and is led by Neko Luzzi-Liggins and standout freshman Jevon Ledgister.
Rancocas Valley, which finished second in the Northeast final last year with a 42.00, is another team to watch, with David Smith returning from last year’s squad. Camden will also be a team to watch and don’t count out Toms River North, whose team of Mordecai Ford, Nasir Jackson, Jael Hester, and Mamadi Diawara, will be making their season debut.
Last N.J. champion: Montclair posted a 41.31 to take home the win in 1984.
