PGA Tour winner has two-word reaction to J.J. Spaun's massive rankings jump in a year

PGA Tour winner Joel Dahmen reacted to J.J. Spaun making a massive jump in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). The American golfer won the 2025 US Open, and with that, he gained 100 OWGR points and jumped to eighth in the ranking.Last year at this time, around the US Open, he was ranked 164th in the world, and within a year, he jumped into the top 10. No Laying Up shared a stat about the huge jump in the OWGR of J.J. Spaun on its X (formerly Twitter) account. Joel Dahmen reacted to it with a two-word reply. He wrote:"so close"J.J. Spaun started his campaign at the 2025 US Open with an opening round of 66. He then struggled in the second round and carded 72, but finally made a comeback and played the next two rounds of 69 and 72 to settle with an overall score of 1-under. Robert MacIntyre finished in solo second place, followed by Viktor Hovland.J.J. Spaun candidly reflects on his "massive improvement" in 2025J.J. Spaun opened up about his massive improvement in 2025 in an interview with SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. He was asked by Taylor Zarzour about his game and ranking in 2025. In response, J.J. Spaun said:"I think I'm just maybe getting older and wiser. But I think a lot has to do with perspective, knowing that golf isn't my life. I'm raising two beautiful girls and having a great family. And just kind of accepting whatever gets thrown my way,"I used to be afraid of being in the moments. And now I m just more afraid of failing. But now that i have been putting myself in those moments, you know, throughout the year, I have been having better outcomes. And it's all kind of led to this huge moment this week," he added.J.J. Spaun had a fantastic start to his 2025 PGA Tour season, and after his T3 finish at the 2025 Sony Hawaii Open, he jumped into the top 100 in the OWGR, ranked 77th. He made another big jump in the ranking after finishing runner-up at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. He was ranked 81st before the tournament and reached 56th after finishing in T2 place. Ahead of the US Open, he was ranked 26th, and with the victory, he jumped to eighth place.Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler ranked number one in the world, followed by Rory McIlroy, who is ranked second. After the US Open, Russell Henley jumped to sixth place in the ranking, and Sepp Straka moved to seventh. Bryson DeChambeau missed the cut in the Major and slipped down to 13th in the OWGR, while Shane Lowry slipped to 16th from 12th.
