Phil Mickelson has been in professional golf for a long time, so there are not many firsts left for him. However, on Friday at the PGA Championship, he did something for the first time.Mickelson rarely makes mistakes around the greens, but on Friday at Quail Hollow, it unbelievably took him four shots to get out of the bunker on the par-4 12th.It was his first quadruple bogey in his PGA Championship career, and it came on his 2,117th hole, per golf stat guru Justin Ray.Mickelson is known as one of the best short-game golfers to have ever lived. He is so talented with a wedge in his hand. But apparently, someone can be among the best and still have days when it takes four shots to get it out of a sand.It was completely uncharacteristic for Lefty, but it happened, and he will miss the cut at the PGA Championship because of it.He opened the tournament with an 8-over 79. Lefty battled early on in his second round. Mickelson went bogey-birdie-bogey in his first five holes. Then he went on a hot streak and made four birdies in his next six holes. That moved him to within a few stokes of the cut line. Then disaster happened at the par-4 12th, where he had to put a snowman on the scorecard.Mickelson did redeem himself somewhat by sinking back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14.With just a handful of holes left, Lefty sits at 7-over overall and five shots back of the current cut line, which is +2. Had he got out of that bunker on his first shot, making the weekend could have become a reality. That is no longer the case.More Golf: Bryson DeChambeau Has Another Poor Finish at the PGA Championship
