The Prep A Tournament final has become a yearly event for head coach Chip Carver and the Pingry squad.
In its fourth straight appearance, Pingry defeated Lawrenceville 11-1 in five innings at home to claim its second straight Prep A title.
Pingry (16-2) opened up the game with an offensive surge in the first inning, driving in two runs before Melia Ahn launched a two-run home run over the left field fence.
Lawrenceville (15-6) looked to strike back in the third inning, with its first two batters reaching base to bring up the top of the order. Casey McKeon left those two runners stranded, striking out the next three hitters to end the inning.
Pingry broke the game open in the bottom of the third, pushing across five runs. Ahn added another two RBIs to her statline with a double, and Sofia Phillipou drove in two on a single.
The fourth inning started much like the third for Lawrenceville, with the first two runners reaching base. With two outs, Lyla Picker drove in the team’s first run, but the second runner was thrown out at home by Phillipou in left field.
McKeon recorded her 100th career hit in the bottom of the fourth, pushing a single into right field. Pingry would score twice in the inning to take a 10-run lead, with Phillipou driving in both.
Pingry would shut out Lawrenceville in the top of the fifth, invoking the run rule to secure the championship.
