Police uncovered a cannabis farm in a series of dawn raids across Bolton this morning. The warrants were executed as part of Operation AVRO, which the force describes as a "monthly blitz on local crime" which operates in a different district of the city each month. This month's action saw officers in Bolton executing warrants throughout the area. Raids in the Tonge Moor area uncovered a large cannabis farm which contained large quantities of mature plants, with one person being arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers executed a warrant on Horsa Street, Tonge Moor in Bolton. A cannabis farm was located at an address and a man was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis." Buildings that are used as cannabis farms can often suffer severe damage as a result of the illegal activity going on. This might include holes being cut into walls to facilitate ventilation or wires, false walls, and tampering with the electrics which can also lead to an increased fire risk. In a statement released ahead of the planned action this morning, Helen Critchley, GMP district commander for Bolton, said: "I'm pleased to report that Operation AVRO is well underway today across the district. "We started with an overnight traffic operation supported by our colleagues from the Specialist Operations Branch. Join our Court and Crime WhatsApp group HERE "We're conducting a number of warrants across the district this morning, many of which have only been possible thanks to the vigilance and selflessness of members of our community coming forward with information, and I thank you. "Today's activity has been based on those things that you have told your neighbourhood teams are important to you, and they are things like neighbourhood crime, vehicle crime, anti-social behaviour and including the use of vehicles and off-road bikes. "Our mounted team will be out and about in the town centre providing a high visibility presence today."
