An iconic Kilmarnock pub is set for a new lease of life three years after it closed. The Brass and Granite in Kilmarnock has been taken over by an Ayrshire-based entrepreneur who aims to "keep the character, lift the energy and bring the venue back to its iconic best". James Griffith has bought the popular pub from Greene King through his Future Remarketing entity, marking a move away from a brewery-owned model. It is the third Ayrshire venue Mr Griffith has invested in after previously taking over at Shoot Soccer in Ayr and The Central in Prestwick . And he promises to "hold on to what makes the pub special" ahead of a "major" interior refit. Former regulars needn't worry though as the pub's iconic bar will remain untouched "as the beating heart of the venue" while the famous football corner is also in for a refresh. In April 2022, the former operators of the pub announced they would stop running it after their lease with Greene King came to an end with the pub closing in June 2022 . Posting on social media, the team behind the Brass and Granite said: "In the heart of Kilmarnock, The Brass and Granite has long been one of Ayrshire's best-known pubs. Over the years, it's built a reputation for great drinks and the kind of no-nonsense atmosphere people come back for again and again. "Now, this local favourite is beginning an exciting new chapter. Ayrshire-based entrepreneur James Griffith, through his Future Remarketing entity, has officially taken ownership from Greene King — marking the third iconic Ayrshire venue the group has bought and heavily invested in over the last two years. "From the massive revival and rebrand of Shoot Soccer in Ayr to the bare brick restoration of The Central in Prestwick, now its The Brass and Granite’s turn and the mission remains the same: keep the character, lift the energy and bring each venue back to their iconic best. "For the first time in decades, The Brass and Granite is free from brewery control. That means no corporate price lists or restrictions — just the freedom to serve competitively priced drinks and run the venue in a way that makes sense for the town it serves whilst further safeguarding the premises for generations to come. "The vision is clear: hold on to what makes the pub special while transforming it into an even bigger draw. A major interior refit will breathe new life into the space, all while honouring its roots—most notably by keeping the iconic bar untouched as the beating heart of the venue. "The famous football corner will be refreshed and ready for match days, while weekends will buzz with live music, DJs and karaoke nights. Introducing a new DJ booth and dance floor will enhance the pub’s entertainment offering, alongside a dedicated section with a pool table for friendly competition. "With its independence restored and a fresh investment behind it, The Brass and Granite is ready to cement its place once again at the heart of Kilmarnock’s social scene — no frills, plenty of spills and all the reasons you need to stay out just a little longer."
