A POPULAR Wetherspoons pub is set to reopen in a Scottish city as its new owners promise to bring a "real local atmosphere". The Angel will launch in just days and is understood to be operating as a wet-led sports bar. The doors are set to open on Monday, March 31 in Leith's former The Foot of the Walk unit, after the "beloved local institution" pulled the shutters down last year. The venue was put on the market in January 2024 after 20 years of trade. Now the new owners are vowing to bring it back to life after a major revamp. Pictures shared on the pub's social media accounts show several big screens dotted throughout the venue, darts boards, several draught beer taps, and cask ales. Owners took to Facebook to announce the grand opening, writing: "BIG NEWS! We will be OPEN on Monday 31st March and you’ll find us right here in Leith, The Angel is your go-to pub for great drinks, live sport, and a real local atmosphere. "We serve a fantastic range of draught beers, cask ales, premium spirits, wines, and soft drinks – all at great value. "With big screens showing live football, rugby, boxing, and more, sports fans won’t miss a moment of the action. "As a drinks-led, 18+ only pub, we focus on creating a welcoming and sociable space where you can simply walk in, grab a seat, and enjoy. Follow us on social media for updates & events we’ll be dropping some BIGGER NEWS soon!" Eager punters raced to respond and share how buzzing they are. One wrote: "Looks absolutely fabulous will definitely be in with the girls for some drinks. Well done everyone!" Another said: "Looks amazing, will definitely pop up for a visit!" A third added: "Looks brilliant! Will pop in when I’m home in Edinburgh." The Angel will be run by AmberTaverns, a firm that operates 178 wet-led pubs across the UK.
