Welcome to Portland, Saucy! Portland’s new pre-professional soccer team, the Portland Bangers, is a day away from its inaugural season and just revealed a new mascot. Its name is Saucy T. Sausage and, seeing how the Bangers were created by the same people behind The Portland Pickles, it is here to sauce things up. But how is the sausage made? According to a video released on Instagram, Saucy was created by Dillon T. Pickle. The video shows Dillon as a mad scientist who plants a pickle in his backyard that somehow turns into a hot dog which is then dropped into some sort of radioactive fluid. Just roll with it. It also appears as though Saucy and Dillon don’t get along at first. But if the social media reaction is any indication, fans think the Bangers have a real wiener winner on their hands. One user called Saucy “phenomenal, terrifying, majestic, nightmare-fuel, beautiful.” Another said Saucy “may be the best mascot in sports!!!” Saucy is lacking pants in a few videos but seems to be wearing a Bangers kit in another. There are two strands of smaller links coming off its top that Saucy can whip around. Its skin is a bit wrinkled and features both grill marks and a USDA Prime brand on its rump. For fans that also want to get a little saucy, the Bangers announced a partnership with StormBreaker Brewing for a new IPA called Wurst Beer Ever that will be available at home games. Their opening game on May 15 is sold out, but there are still tickets available to the second game on May 25, which happens to be Mascot Mania night. This should give plenty of time for Dillon and Saucy to link up and squash their beef.
