Make it six consecutive seasons that the Portland Pilots have qualified for a postseason women’s basketball tournament.
Although they missed out on the NCAA Tournament, the Pilots on Sunday were invited to play in the 32-team Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament. Portland (29-4) will visit Stanford (16-14) for a first-round matchup on Thursday (ESPN+).
If they beat the Cardinal, the Pilots would then play next Sunday and face the winner of a Thursday matchup between Seton Hall and Quinnipiac.
The WBIT quarterfinals are set for Thursday, March 27. Both the semifinals on March 31 and the championship game on April 2 will be played at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The Pilots won a share of the regular-season title in the West Coast Conference before falling to Oregon State in the WCC tournament title game. UP’s 29 wins are its most since the 1983-84 season and the school’s most as a Division I team.
