The South Korean forward left out Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior and Barcelona’s Raphinha while placing Kylian Mbappe at the top of his list.
Mbappe reigns supreme as Son leaves out big names
When asked to rank the best players in the world right now, Son didn’t hesitate to place Kylian Mbappe at number one, hailing the French superstar as a complete player who has thrived under immense pressure.
Mbappe has scored 28 goals in all competitions in his first season at Real Madrid and is still in contention to win a treble with Los Blancos.
Coming in at number two on Son’s list was Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, while at number three, the South Korean forward picked his former Tottenham teammate, Harry Kane, who has been lighting up the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
Son’s fourth-place pick was Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid’s midfield sensation, who has been a revelation in La Liga, and rounding out the list at number five was Barcelona’s teenage prodigy, Lamine Yama.
However, the biggest talking point was the omission of Vinicius Junior and Raphinha, both of whom have been in superb form for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.
Son’s excludes himself amidst current season struggles
Interestingly, Son did not include himself in the rankings, which is no surprise given his well-known humility.
However, some might argue that it could also be a recognition of his recent dip in form at the moment. At 32 years old, the Tottenham captain has struggled to match his best seasons, managing only seven Premier League goals in 25 appearances this campaign.
While he remains a key figure for Spurs, his influence has waned slightly, with injuries and fatigue taking their toll and his omission from the list might be a quiet admission that he no longer sees himself among the very best.
Regardless, Son’s choices have sparked debate among fans, with Vinicius and Raphinha’s exclusions raising eyebrows.
