MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. Moscow and Washington are working on a prisoner exchange through relevant channels, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told reporters.
"This is one of the issues on the bilateral agenda that we continue to work on through relevant channels," he said on the sidelines of the Russian International Affairs Council conference titled Russia and India: Towards a New Agenda for Bilateral Relations.
On February 11, American Marc Fogel, who was serving a sentence in Russia for drug smuggling, was released. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz described it as Moscow’s goodwill gesture, suggesting progress in resolving the situation in Ukraine. US President Donald Trump said that the United States greatly values the release of its citizen by the Russian authorities.
On February 13, Russian citizen Alexander Vinnik, released from an American prison, returned to Russia. He thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin and those responsible for his return. The Kremlin characterized the prisoner swap as a step toward enhancing mutual trust with Washington.
