An announcement of a new album from legendary band Pulp has seen fans declare today (April 10) as an international "Pulp Day". Celebrations are in order for fans of the band after frontman Jarvis Cocker confirmed the group would release their eighth studio album later this year. It marks the first Pulp album release in 24 years, with fans thrilled by the new announcement earlier today. The album comes over a decade after the band's most recent release, 2013's 'After You'. X users shared photographs of albums, announcements and interview snippets from the band over the years while radio stations predominantly played Pulp songs. BBC Radio 6's Lauren Laverne played a series of Pulp hits, including 'Do You Remember the First Time?' and 'Common People', which left social media users calling Pulp Day "glorious". Another user shared a drawing of the band and wished everyone a "happy Pulp Day". One user wrote: "Lauren Laverne listeners currently knocking it out of the park with their Pulp selections." Another added: "Almost a Pulp takeover. Glorious." A third wrote: "Back to back Pulp tunes are always such an uplifting, joyous event. Thank you." The "Pulp Day" declaration comes as the band confirm plans for new studio material, 24 years on from the 2001 release, 'We Love Life'. The Scott Walker-produced album would be Pulp's last bit of studio activity until their first reunion in 2011, which culminated with single track, 'After You', releasing in 2013. A decade later and Pulp reunited for a series of shows across the globe, with attendees of the North America shows catching a glimpse of new material from the group. During live dates in Mexico, the United States, and Finland, the band teased new material which now features on their upcoming album, More. Songs such as Spike Island, Background Noise, and Farmer's Market, were teased across the tour dates in November 2024. Fans could hardly contain their excitement when new Pulp material was announced. One user joked the release date gives fans "eight weeks to emotionally regress and iron your best vintage blazer". Others wondered how the new songs would find their way into live line-ups. Pulp has played a consistent set of hits over the course of the last two years, but made room for deep cuts like 'O.U.' and 'Bad Cover Version' on a handful of dates. One user wrote: "Of course it's hard to imagine then ever leaving out Common People and Disco 2000 these days!" Another added: "I think Weeds 1/2 are both out and I bet sadly my boy OU will be gone too." A statement from the band confirming the announcement reads: "The album was recorded over 3 weeks by James Ford in Walthamstow, London, starting on November 18th, 2024. This is the shortest amount of time a Pulp album has ever taken to record. It was obviously ready to happen. "We hope you enjoy the music. It was written & performed by four human beings from the North of England, aided & abetted by five other human beings from various locations in the British Isles. No A.I. was involved during the process. This album is dedicated to Steve Mackey. This is the best that we can do."
