The star batter was also India's top run-getter in the 2025 Champions Trophy triumph. However, the 30-year-old was not picked in the Suryakumar Yadav-led side and did not even find a place in the list of five standbys. The move has sparked backlash. It was only the third instance in history of them making the playoffs and just their second outing in a final. Shreyas is the only captain in IPL history to reach multiple finals. He led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a title victory in 2024. Earlier, Delhi Capitals (DC) reached their only final in history under Shreyas in 2020.
