Putin is balls deep in Ukraine and has little capacity to spare. In fact Iran is helping him by supplying drones.

This would be the time you say to the Iranians that Russia just sold you out. Want to hook up?
I mean if we did it with Vietnam...

Russian deputy foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said a U.S. attack on Iran would have dire consequences for the region but Moscow would offer any help in negotiations between Tehran, with which it has close military ties, and Washington.
However, he added that Moscow did not have to help Tehran in the event of such an attack. Hamidreza Azizi, an Iran expert, told Newsweek that Iranian leaders know that they are on their own if there were a U.S. attack.
I'm reading it differently.
That bit of wording, says russia has transferred advanced weapons to Iran.
Probably the Kinzhal and Zircon hypersonic missiles.
Both are capable carrier killers when used with enough decoys.
Decoys being drone swarms.
CIWS/Aegis can only target so many objects at a time.. If drones take up the immediate threat, a hypersonic missile launched after the initial drone engagement would almost be noise on the overall radar coverage, which could pass through defenses and strike a carrier.
F*ckin hope I'm wrong.

Right. So why would Russia risk threatening that supply? That is what doesn't make sense to me.

Because the Russia-China-North Korea-Iran alliance has precious fark-all binding it together except "We hate USA". All have divergent medium-to-long term goals, and most are mutually exclusive. When the US has effectively joined their side, they don't have really anything to bind them. Imagine the opening to The Dark Knight, but before the heist even begins, the bank manager just shows up and delivers all the cash to them. Now, imagine the bloodbath. Nothing about Iran matters a tinker's damn to Russia. If Putin's personal ballwasher wants to tie one on with them, he won't even blink

Yeah, but wouldn't another forever war/quagmire help us get out of our economics doldrums.
/Wonderful that Trump self sanctioned his own country, to now saber rattle for a ruinous war to Put us on par with Put in.

I am. Just because they are under no obligation to help doesn't mean they won't. Of all the monumentally stupid ideas the Trump Admin has generated, directly attacking Iran is easily in the top 5.

Russia invaded Iran (Persia) in 1909 and continued to occupy parts of the country until 1918. Russia again invaded in 1941 as part of an Allied invasion to prevent Iran from siding with the Axis Powers. So, no love lost between the two. However, Russia no longer border Iran. Also, Russia probably sees Iran as an influence on Islamic extremists inside Russia. Iran has supported Russia's invasion of Ukraine and provided Russia with drones and maybe as an outlet to avoid sanctions, but Russia would have more to gain by siding with Trump.

"Russia acquired the right to produce Shahed drones domestically. Due to labor shortage, African labor is present on the production line, under strict surveillance, deceitful remuneration and poor safety conditions.[94]"

Keep an eye on China...
China has a 25-year treaty with Iran, albeit economic only (cheap oil for massive Chinese investment).
Apparently China wanted to send ~4,000 'security forces' to Iran but Iranian law
prohibits foreign militaries onto its soil (at this time).

Difficulty: that Persia was ruled by same dynasty that was ousted Islamic Revolution

The USS Harry S Truman just had it's Red Sea deployment extended, and the USS Carl Vinson is en route. We have also been staging B-2 bombers at Diego Garcia.
