PXG's Jake Knapp Passing Golf's 'True Test' at The PLAYERS Championship
@Source: newsweek.com
Two weeks ago, Jake Knapp made headlines by shooting a 59 at the Cognizant Classic. It was the 15th sub-60 round on the PGA Tour.Now, Knapp is enjoying an excellent golf tournament so far at The PLAYERS Championship. After 36 holes, he is tied for 9th place at 7-under par, four shots off the lead.However, Knapp did not take the result lightly. Speaking after the second round, the 30-year-old said that players need to be very focused on the job in order to do well at TPC Sawgrass."I think a place like this is like a true test of patience," Knapp said. "I think yesterday when you look at the guys that played well, I mean, I didn't see everything, but I feel like there were a lot of chip-ins yesterday, there were a lot of eagles. There was a lot of that kind of stuff going on."Knapp went on to say that patience is important not only for executing each shot correctly, but also for maintaining focus from one round to the next."It's like, the first day is not always the most telling as to what the rest of the week is going to be, especially with the weather this weekend. I think if you start looking at the leaderboard too much and seeing guys making a bunch of birdies, you don't want to press on a course like this, you really can't, to be honest.""So out here just try to be really patient, give yourself a bunch of chances and trust the fact that you'll just kind of get there inch by inch."The PGA Tour winner also shared his vision of how the course will look heading into the weekend. With wind gusts of 30 MPH forecast for the third round, Knapp believes fairway work will be essential."It's going to be tough," he said. "I think it's just going to be one of those days you just have to take advantage of the downwind holes and when the course kind of gives you something.""Other than that, just trying to keep it in front of you and really miss on the correct side of the hole, try not to leave yourself too many long par putts because it's just going to be a grind of a day so fairways are definitely going to be key tomorrow."Jake Knapp carded two solid first rounds of 69 and 68 at The PLAYERS Championship. He has made 10 birdies and three bogeys over the first 36 holes, and has been particularly strong on the back nine, where he has carded six birdies and no bogeys.This is Knapp's second appearance at The PLAYERS Championship. In 2024, he finished tied for 45th with a score of 4-under 284.More Golf: The PLAYERS: Collin Morikawa Fires Back at PGA Tour Pros After API No-Show
