Queensland turning to teenage tearaway in bid to rescue Shield final

Queensland's veterans are looking to a teenager as their potential game-breaker against South Australia in the Sheffield Shield final.
SA, after bowling the Bulls out for a paltry 95, will resume at 6-158 on Thursday's second day of play at Adelaide's Karen Rolton Oval.
In just his third first-class game, Queensland's 19-year-old express paceman Callum Vidler has taken 4-33 in an eye-catching display.
"Showing some pretty raw pace, it's really exciting for us to see," Bulls veteran and wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson said.
"And it's exciting to see for Cricket Australia as well, seeing someone like that coming through, bowling that sort of pace.
"He's only played a handful of of first-class games and he's learning about his craft.
"He has got one of the greats in (Queensland bowling coach) Andy Bichel teaching him about some various things as he goes through.
"But he's got that thing you can't teach, which is absolute pace."
Peirson estimates Vidler's pace as in the high 140kph range, and the young Bull impressed South Australia's cricketers.
"I love him, he looks good," said SA quick Brendan Doggett, who was the chief destroyer of his former state by taking 6-31.
"He's fast, he's wiry and aggressive. I don't want to face him but he's looking really good.
"Queensland has got a winner there … for sure."
Doggett's feats with the ball helped SA take opening-day honours, but Peirson backed his Queensland teammates to relish the challenge saying "the game is alive and well".
"I look back to some of the games we played this year, across the last five years — where our backs are against the wall, we find a way to be competitive," Peirson said.
"If we can give ourselves a chance, bowl these guys out early (on Thursday, get in front of them and give Sweppo (spinner Mitchell Swepson) that spin on day four and five, it's going to be a really interesting finish."
