All the ado for over a week about a downpour with heavy to very heavy intensity turned out to be a damp squib, with the Sun shining its brightest of the past one week on the city on Thursday.
Weather pundits of all hues were collectively embarrassed by the sudden U turn in the skies, which till recently had been busy inundating the city roads and giving sleepless nights to the civic authorities. Very slight drizzle was experienced in select few areas of the city on Thursday, with the highest rainfall being recorded at Tolichowki at 14 millimetres. Surrounding areas such as Bandlaguda, Shaikpet, Filmnagar, besides Gajularamaram received scattered drizzles.
A very old structure in Begum Bazar, which had been soaked in the incessant rain, collapsed on Thursday. However, it had already been declared unsafe by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and nobody was inside when it collapsed. India Meteorological Department predicted possibility of light to moderate rain at isolated places in the city on August 15. Gusty winds, and generally cloudy sky are very likely, the IMD’s weather bulletin said.
