The late Olympic silver medallist and Castres winger Josaia Winimaivunidawa Raisuqe will be buried in his village Lutu, Wainibuka, Naitasiri tomorrow.
His body arrived in the country yesterday accompanied by the club representatives, his parents Tevita and Mereani Raisuqe and partner Ilona Valette.
Valette who has been dating Raisuqe the past four years, shared that the former national 7s rep had a great sense of humour. She broke her silence at the Nadi International Airport yesterday.
She wished that her first trip to Fiji would not have been to burry Raisuqe but otherwise.
“We have been together for the last four years, the last time we were chatting – we were making the sofa for our new home,” she said.
“He always makes me happy as he cracks jokes. It is sad that on my first trip to Fiji, he is not alive. The first time we met was during a night out in Castres.”
The group from France arrived in the country on Tuesday while the casket had a transit delay at the airport in Toulouse, France.
Fiji 7s reps carried the casket out of the cargo area to the terminal where a traditional ceremony was observed. His body was received by the Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru and executives of Fiji Rugby Union, Fiji Association of Sports And National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) and athletes were present to farewell the national hero.
The France-based club management handed over the body of the late to the Fiji Government delegation.
The protocol of Ai Vakasobu was carried out before the hearse was escorted to the CWM hospital morgue. The hearse will depart CWM Hospital at 3pm today.
Funeral arrangements will commence on at 10am tomorrow with a church service before he is laid to rest at their family cemetery.
The 30-year-old was tragically killed in a road accident on May 8.
Raisuqe made seven appearances for Castres this season, his final game played just days before the tragic accident.
