STEVIE FARRELL says crisis-club Dumbarton still need a cash injection to survive the season. The Sons were plunged into administration and docked 15 points last November. Fans have since raised £105,000 through a GoFundMe page to help the club continue, but boss Faz admits that still might not be enough. He said: “We’re probably going to have to try and find another not insurmountable amount to get us through to the end of the season. “By then there may be a change to the commercial development behind the scenes in terms of investors and legal proceedings going on. “We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s about taking things in six-week windows. I meet with the administrators every six weeks for updates, and we’ll probably have another in a week or so. “But the fans and general football fraternity in terms of the GoFundMe page was an excellent and such an unbelievable response. “I can’t thank people enough because ultimately they have paid part-time footballers their wages.” Farrell has embraced the challenge, but his side sit 14 points adrift at the foot of League One. In his day job he works for a trade union, but he admits he’s never faced anything like this. Ahead of today’s home clash with Montrose, Faz added: “It’s probably been my biggest learning curve in football. You go through licences and qualifications to be a coach and manager. “You sit in the dugout, pick your team and do your analytic work, but nothing prepares you for that call last November. “For the first time as a manager I’ve not been in full control of everything. Normally you’ll know and understand your financial constraints. I’ve never been at a club where the financial constraints are really high. “I’ve always worked at clubs where it’s really difficult and challenging and you understand that. “But this was a different arena because that structure is no longer a structure, and it just becomes one of complete uncertainty. “The 15-point deduction devastated the club. Initially it was about are players and staff going to be paid. When that hurdle’s over you’re into January. You go through licences and qualifications to be a coach and manager. You sit in the dugout, pick your team and do your analytic work, but nothing prepares you for that call last November.Stevie Farrell “You can’t add to the squad, you can’t recruit any more than Under- 20s. I thank a couple of clubs, Queen’s Park and Falkirk, for giving us players for nothing. Rangers as well. “Without them we probably wouldn’t have enough of a squad to get us to the end of the season. Then you’ve got your own players who will be out of contract. “Normally it would be time to talk about new deals, but I’m not able to do that. Players quite rightly are talking to other clubs. I know that as their agents and other managers are telling me. “I don’t have any issue with that at all. But it means there are bits outwith your control. “Minds are elsewhere and you lose that momentum a wee bit. “Players are asking what’s happening, and you’re liaising with the administrators who are two lovely guys and have been excellent. Due to confidentiality and legal reasons there’s only been so much they can feed back to myself. “It’s been about trying to manage all that and keep that going. “It’s all a huge learning process that I hopefully never have to go through again.” Dumbarton's Save Our Sons GoFundMe page can be accessed HERE Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
