Rangers 'would love' Steven Gerrard to be next manager as Harry Redknapp tells them to take leaf out of Celtic's book

Harry Redknapp reckons Rangers would LOVE to have Steven Gerrard back - and that they should take a leaf out of Celtic’s book by appointing him. The ex West Ham United , Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth boss believes the success Brendan Rodgers has had on his return to Celtic is proof of how managers can work second time around. Rangers are on the hunt for a new permanent boss amid an ongoing takeover by 49ers Enterprises and an American consortium led by health insurance tycoon Andrew Cavenagh. Gerrard won the Scottish Premiership title with Rangers in 2021 before a shock departure to Aston Villa in the English Premier League where he was sacked. The Liverpool and England legend the moved to to the Saudi Pro League but that Middle East spell ended in disappointment. With Gerrard out of work and available, Redknapp told football betting site BetVictor : “I think Rangers would love to have Steven Gerrard back as manager. “He did a great job there the first time round and I’d like to see him back in European football. I think he’s got a lot to offer, and it would be great to see him back at Rangers. “I look at Celtic taking Brendan Rodgers back – so why can’t Rangers do the same with Gerrard? Brendan has gone back and done a great job at Celtic Park. “I know some of the fans were a little bit upset when he left the first time round, but that’s what happens in football – it was the same when I left Portsmouth then went back there. “I believe Gerrard would be a great choice for Rangers again, and they’ll hope he can bridge the gap between them and Celtic.” Follow Record Sport on Twitter , Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond.
