Ravi Shastri’s Holi Wish Is A Hilarious Reminder Why He’s A Cool Customer Of Indian Cricket
@Source: news18.com
In a world that constantly expects one to be politically correct and say the right thing to appease the masses, Ravi Shastri emerges as a great anomaly. While his commentating shenanigans can be a whole writeup on its own, the former India head coach’s blunt, uncensored approach to situations make him stand out from the crowd. Take this for one- Virat Kohli recorded a message for fans on the occasion of Holi, the festival of colours, by saying: “Happy Holi everyone. Have a great day. Enjoy. Use less water and more colour.” The camera then panned to the former chief seated beside Kohli on the team bus who kept it candid. “Use everything. Have an absolute blast. Happy Holi,” Shastri said as a burst of audible laughter from team members can be heard. Of course, this isn’t an isolated incident and we have put together a few instances that prove why Shastri is indeed a cool customer of Indian cricket. Shastri on facing Wasim Akram Shastri seated on a panel with former cricketer and Pakistan swing legend Wasim Akram stressed on the fact that it wasn’t an easy feat facing the pacers of the world. He observed that the batter had to protect their sensitive areas and not just their head and toes. “You have to be very careful because people think it’s only your toes and your head. You got to watch your nuts also,” Shastri’s wit elicited plenty of laughter. Also Read: Virat Kohli Fans Are Bashing Bisleri On Instagram. The Bottle Flip ‘Controversy’ That Nobody Is Taking About Goti muh mein… 2018-19 Border Gavaskar Trophy is iconic on its own, a golden era for India cricket, started off with a thrilling Adelaide Test where Australia were given a target of 323 runs by the visiting India to win the opening encounter. The hosts battled long and hard and only fell short of the finish line by 31 runs. Speaking to Sunil Gavaskar after the match, Shastri stuck to his signature style. “Sach bole to goti muh mein aa gaye the (To be honest, we almost had balls in our mouth),” Shastri’s honest take invited some trolls online but Gavaskar had a hearty laugh to former coach’s unabashed honesty on live TV. Bhaad mein gaya pitch After defeating South Africa handsomely by an inning and 202 runs at Ranchi’s JSCA International Stadium back in 2019, Shastri asserted that pitch or a country didn’t matter. What mattered was taking 20 wickets to win a contest. Chaahe Johannesburg ho, chaahe India ho, chaahe Mumbai ho, chaahe Delhi ho, chaahe Auckalnd ho jidhar bhi. Chaahe Melbounre ho. (Take the pitch out of the game, hell with the pitch. We have to take those 20 wickets, whether it’s Johannesburg, India, Mumbai, Delhi, Auckland. Even so Melbourne, doesn’t matter).” Party animal If you have followed cricket in any capacity, you’d probably know that Shastri and drinks go hand in hand. Or that is what has been the general perception among fans- the former coach “appeared” hammered during matches. While this was obviously never proven or taken seriously in any capacity, the jokes carried on. Shastri, instead of running away from the social media mockery, took the jokes in his stride and featured as a “party animal” in fintech company CRED’s advertisement. The ad shows Shastri in a hilarious avatar complete with plenty of one-liners. “I used to be a batsman, but for you, I can be a keeper.” Don't remember any of this. pic.twitter.com/xDppHjE0iz — Ravi Shastri (@RaviShastriOfc) May 21, 2022 Also Read: Javed Akhtar Once Left Shankar Mahadevan ‘Breathless’ With Lyrics For That Song, Here’s How Social media trolling Shastri doesn’t care about memes on him and is okay with people laughing at his expense. “It’s banter all the way, they do it to have fun at my expense, I will take a laugh yaar, have a drink in my name. Kya farak padta hai, Main nimbu paani piyunga or I will have milk and honey, you have a drink, enjoy karo na at my expense,” the former coach said in a post-match press conference.
