The Regional District of Central Okanagan is moving to Stage 3 water restrictions as drought conditions worsen across the Okanagan.
The RDCO announced Tuesday the new restrictions are being placed for users on all six water systems operated by the district.
In a news release, the RDCO says the restrictions are required due to the Level 3 drought classification the province has listed for the region.
“A Level 3 drought signals critically dry conditions that could lead to serious effects on ecosystems and communities without meaningful water conservation,” a news release stated.
“By following water restrictions, residents help protect water sources, reduce pressure on infrastructure and support the health of local watersheds.”
Restrictions come into effect immediately for residents on the Star Place, Falcon Ridge, Killiney Beach, Sunset Ranch, Upper Fintry/Shalal Road/Valley of the Sun and Westshore water systems.
Under Stage 3 restrictions, outdoor lawn and garden watering is limited to one day a week. Even numbered addresses can water on Saturday and odd numbered addresses on Sunday.
Several water uses are also prohibited including filling of swimming pools, hot tubs, garden ponds or decorative fountains, washing of vehicles, boats, driveways, sidewalks or patios.
Automated irrigation systems are restricted to operate only between midnight and 6 a.m. with manual watering allowed between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight on your designated watering day.
