The stage is set for the 2024 Fiji Sports Awards to take place on March 22 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
According to the event’s public relations, branding and media Andhy Blake, this year’s edition has already made history, attracting a record-breaking 112 nominees across 22 national sporting organisations and three major media outlets.
This is when compared to last year’s 98 nominees- the 2024 edition reflects the unwavering commitment of athletes, coaches and administrators who continue to elevate Fijian sports on both local and international stages.
This, Blake said, is a testament to the growth and resilience of Fiji’s sporting community.
Fiji Sports Commission chief executive officer Peter Mazey, who is hosting the awards night, acknowledged the milestone moment for Fijian sports.
“At the 2024 Sports Awards, we will celebrate a remarkable year for Fiji’s sporting community, marked by a record breaking number of nominations and the inspiring achievements from our athletes at the Paris Olympic Games, Paris Paralympic Games, World Games and other international, regional and local tournaments, forging a legacy of excellence and determination,” Mazey said.
He said the sports awards is the pinnacle of sporting recognition in the country, bringing together Fiji’s top sporting talents, from grassroots athletes to international champions.
This is to honour their dedication, perseverance and success. This year’s nominees represent diverse sporting codes and achievements, highlighting Fiji’s growing impact on the global sporting stage.
The night will feature awards across multiple categories, including Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, Coach of the Year, Administration of the Year and Team of the Year among others.
The event also recognises outstanding contributions to sports development and the invaluable role of volunteers, officials and supporters in shaping Fiji’s sporting future.
