Reece Aims to Break Super Rugby Record
@Source: fijisun.com.fj
It will be a big blessing if I break the Super Rugby Pacific try scoring record in Fiji. This was the gist of Crusaders centre Sevu Reece’s interview with SUNsports yesterday. “My mum and dad are going to be here tomorrow (today),” he said. “My family members from Naivimagimagi in Kadavu are also going to be here to watch. “It will be a blessing to break the record with all of them watching.” Reece has scored 64 Super Rugby tries while the record is 65 currently held by former All Blacks and Hurricanes halfback TJ Perenara. Reece said it was a privilege for him to don the Fiji Airways sponsored jersey with designs that represent his cultural identity and heritage. “It’s good as Fiji is too hot to be wearing black and the idea of a white jersey with cool Fijian designs camp up,” he said. “There are few Fijian boys like myself, George Bower, Chay Fihaki and Levi Aumua in the team. Acknowledging the Fijian boys, it’s very cool and exciting as a lot of these boys are excited to wear that new jersey tomorrow (today).” Reece indicated that his team would be out to create history by beating the Drua on their home ground for the first time. “It’s an exciting challenge playing at centre and my coaches trust me by giving me the opportunity to start at 13,” he said. “Masi (Iosefo) is a very talented athlete and I’m aware of it especially when Fijians come against Fijians, it’s always exciting.” Reece said his team would have to play 80-minute rugby against the Drua. “The Moana Pasifika and Fijian Drua very similar as they’ve got flair and talent everywhere, so we have to nail and execute everything,” he said. “If we make too many mistakes, these Drua boys can score runaway tries so we’re going to be truthful with that and turn up tomorrow (today) with the right mindset.” Reece said he would be pleased to see some Crusaders supporters among the crowd during game day.
