Residents Demand More Police Patrols as Thefts Continue

Residents of Sakoca Settlement in Tamavua are calling for increased police patrols following a series of break-ins affecting local businesses and construction sites. Nitin Prasad, owner of Rainbow Clean Services, said his company vehicle was broken into overnight and discovered damaged on Friday morning. “My father noticed the vehicle’s cracked window before leaving for work,” Mr Prasad said. “When I opened it, I saw the subwoofer and amplifier were missing.” The vehicle is used daily to transport staff. Mr Prasad has now joined others in the community in requesting more frequent police patrols in the area. Police confirmed the break-in followed a similar incident the previous week, when power tools were stolen from a nearby construction site. Carpenter Sahil Kumar said thieves removed a window pane and used a wheelbarrow to steal equipment from the site. “This is the third break-in at the same construction site in four months-and now one vehicle has also been targeted,” Mr Kumar said. “I appeal to the thieves to return the tools. This is our livelihood.” A witness reportedly saw three youths with a wheelbarrow near the site on the night of the incident. Mr Prasad also claimed police took more than four hours to respond after being called at 6:30am. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed two arrests have been made in connection with Mr Prasad’s case. One suspect has been charged and will appear in court today, while the second is still being questioned. “The Valelevu Operations Team has been conducting visibility coverage in Sakoca over the past few weeks,” Ms Naisoro said.
