Indian cricketer Rinku Singh and Samajwadi Party’s Member of Parliament (MP) Priya Saroj’s wedding has been reportedly postponed from the original November 18 date. According to a report in the Amar Ujala newspaper, which cited the families as the source, the ceremony will now take place in February 2026 due to Rinku’s cricketing commitments in November.
The couple got engaged in a grand ring ceremony in a Lucknow hotel on June 8, making their long-time relationship official for the wider world. Big faces from both of their worlds, including SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, actress Jaya Bachchan, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, and fast-bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, were present.
At that time, it was said that the families had booked the Taj Hotel in Varanasi for November 18, but now, the report claims, it has to be moved to February, with a final date to be released soon.
Saroj was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Machhlishahr constituency in the Jaunpur district. She graduated with a law degree from Amity University in Noida.
Priya reportedly got to know Rinku via a mutual acquaintance whose father was involved with cricket. Their relationship was supported by both families, as their initial acquaintance turned into friendship.
Her father, Toofani Saroj, represented Saidpur, Ghazipur, and Machhlishahr as an MP and as a member of the Legislative Assembly from Kerakat in Jaunpur.
“Rinku and Priya have known each other for more than a year now. They both liked each other, but needed their families’ consent for the relationship. Both families have agreed to this marriage,” Tufani Saroj was earlier quoted as saying by PTI.
27-year-old Rinku has represented India in 33 T20Is and 2 ODIs. He is regarded as one of the best white-ball finishers in global cricket and was Kolkata Knight Riders’ first IPL 2025 retention.
As per BCCI’s schedule, India will tour Australia for three ODIs and five T20Is between October 19 and November 8. They’ll then host South Africa for an all-format series, starting with two Tests, from November 14-18 and November 22-26, followed by three ODIs from November 30.
India are currently playing a five-Test series against England and Rinku, having not made his debut in the format yet, is not part of it.
