Rio Ferdinand fumes at Liverpool fans as he offers verdict on Trent Alexander-Arnold boos
@Source: mirror.co.uk
Rio Ferdinand was left baffled after Liverpool bans booed Trent Alexander-Arnold against Arsenal at Anfield. The defender was named on the bench against the Gunners - with the game representing his first outing since confirming his exit at the end of his contract. As he was introduced as a substitute in the second-half, fans turned on him, booing him as he entered the pitch. He also received a less than complimentary reaction every time he touched the ball. Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand couldn’t believe his ears given the reaction. Taking to Twitter during Sunday’s 2-2 draw, he said: “I can’t believe LFC fans booing one of their own. “I understand that some of you guys are not happy with his decision etc BUT to boo Trent after he has won the lot with you is baffling! Didn’t cost you a penny.” Ferdinand was not the only one left slightly bemused by Liverpool fans' reactions to Alexander-Arnold . Club icon Jamie Carragher also offered his take, claiming he was surprised by how many supporters reacted badly but suggested he could sympathise with those unhappy at Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave the club. Speaking after Sunday’s stalemate, he said: "That's the story of the game [the boos]. That's what we will be talking about after the game, and the back pages of every newspaper tomorrow. "I'm surprised how many. When you're in a crowd of 60,000, there's no doubt there's a lot of unhappy people at Liverpool about the situation. And I've said that's understandable. "But for me, I said it before the show and said the same away at Leicester where there were a few boos in the away section, I don't believe any player putting on that red shirt on going out there to get them three points or winning titles who goes on to win trophies should be being booed. Should Liverpool fans have booed Trent Alexander-Arnold? Share your thoughts in the comments below "I understand, there's a lot of ill-feeling. And some people outside of Liverpool won't be able to understand that. I do. Booing one of your own players while they're playing is not for me." Alexander-Arnold now has a maximum of two matches of his Liverpool career remaining. The Merseysiders take on Brighton next weekend in their penultimate game of the campaign. Arne Slot ’s side round off their season against Crystal Palace at Anfield - a game that will represent Alexander-Arnold’s final and also the occasion they will lift the Premier League trophy.
