India vs England: 1st Test, Day 3 – Live Score
Earlier, Pant set a new record for Indian Test cricket on Saturday, surpassing MS Dhoni to become the wicketkeeper with the most Test centuries for India, on the second day of the first Test against England.
Pant reached his seventh Test century, and fourth against England, with a remarkable one-handed six over midwicket — a shot showcasing his audacity and brilliance in redefining the wicketkeeper-batter role in modern cricket.

Starting Day 2 of the first Test on 65 not out, Pant exhibited great maturity and composure in the early hours of play. Batting alongside India captain Shubman Gill, who was unbeaten on 127, Pant withstood early pressure from England’s bowlers before launching his characteristic aggressive strokes.
Pant’s landmark century placed him ahead of Dhoni in SENA centuries and brought him level with England’s Les Ames on five away hundreds. Only Andy Flower (6) and Adam Gilchrist (10) have more among wicketkeepers. This knock also positioned Pant among India’s finest overseas performers as he neared 2,000 away Test runs, further proving his ability to excel in challenging conditions.
This century added to Pant’s growing list of career milestones. On Day 1, he became just the 27th Indian batter to reach 3,000 Test runs, achieving this in only his 76th innings. With seven centuries and 15 fifties, the left-hander continues to build an impressive red-ball résumé, made even more significant by the fact that he has been dismissed in the 90s seven times, making each completed century even more special.
Pant’s record against England is now even more impressive, with over 875 runs at an average above 43, including four centuries. His performance at Headingley reinforced his reputation as a big-match player. Pant also now has three Test centuries in England, equalling the tallies of Les Ames and Alan Knott, and trailing only Alec Stewart and Matt Prior among wicketkeepers.
