Netflix is all set to premiere Zero Day, a cyber-thriller series starring Robert De Niro in his first-ever television lead role. The series, written and directed by Noah Oppenheim and Eric Newman, will premiere on February 20. It follows a former US president (De Niro) investigating a nationwide cyberattack while dealing with personal issues. Despite the show's chilling premise, De Niro has reportedly said that the actual world is scarier. Zero Day explores the aftermath of a devastating cyberattack that kills thousands and drives an already fragile nation to the brink of collapse. De Niro's character, former president George Mullen, leads the Zero Day Commission to find those responsible for this catastrophe. Newman has said that the makers were inspired by projects such as The Parallax View, Marathon Man, and Three Days of the Condor. Zero Day boasts an ensemble cast. Angela Bassett plays the current US President Evelyn Mitchell who recruits Mullen. Jesse Plemons plays Roger Carlson, a former adviser to Mullen who is looking for a way back to the national scene. Lizzy Caplan plays Alexandra Mullen, a young congresswoman who is trying to break free from her powerful father's shadow. The series mirrors contemporary global crises, delving into themes of deceit and conspiracy theories in an era defined by technological dominance.
