Robert Pattinson is all of us right now when it comes to The Batman Part II. When asked if he'll start filming the highly anticipated sequel to the 2022 film anytime soon, he offered a candid response: "I f---ing hope so." Speaking with his Mickey 17 costar Naomi Ackie for Hero Magazine, Pattinson continued in between laughs, "I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f---ing old Batman by the sequel." "I'm 38. I'm old," he added, though Ackie called "bulls---" on that assertion. "I’m old, but I’m healthier," he continued. "I think I’ve actually brought my biological age down a bit." Warner Bros. delayed the sequel multiple times since plans were officially announced at CinemaCon in April 2022. It went from 2025 to 2026, and now the most recent bump plants it in 2027. James Gunn, who heads DC Studios with Peter Safran, explained in a post on Threads, "The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script...[director] Matt [Reeves] is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films." Want more movie news? Also on Threads, Gunn more recently posted to explain how a five-year gap or more between releases "is fairly common in sequels," Gunn wrote on Threads. "7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3." Reeves previously told Entertainment Weekly, "We've given big parts of what we've written so far to DC and they know what we're doing," teasing "there's a period of time" The Batman Part II will jump to after the first film and The Penguin TV series. "Oz does become one of the entry points into the movie," he said of Colin Farrell's character. "I can't tell you where it goes from there, except to say that we're super excited about it."
