Rohit Sharma was on fire with the bat in the Champions Trophy 2025 final. In the match played against New Zealand at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (March 9), the right-handed batter opened the innings for Men in Blue and scored 76 runs from 83 balls. During his stay at the crease, he hammered seven fours and three sixes. The three sixes in the summit clash helped Rohit equal MS Dhoni’s record of hitting the most sixes for India as captain in ODIs. During his playing days, Dhoni led India in 200 ODIs and hammered 126 sixes, whereas Rohit has smacked 126 sixes in 55 innings played so far. The overall record of hitting the most sixes in ODIs as captain is in the name of Eoin Morgan. The 2019 ODI World Cup-winning team captain led England in 126 matches and hammered 147 sixes. For his 76-run knock in the final, Rohit won the Player of the Match award. He is the only captain in the history of the Champions Trophy to win the POTM award in the final. Overall, only four captains—Clive Lloyd, Ricky Ponting, MS Dhoni, and Rohit—have won the POTM award in ICC finals. Sunday’s match between India and New Zealand in Dubai was Rohit’s ninth ICC final for India, and he, along with Virat Kohli, has now become one of the first two players to feature in nine ICC finals. Rohit is also the only captain in the world to play all four ICC finals. Under his leadership, India ended as runners-up in the 2023 World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup before finally lifting the T20 World Cup title in 2024. Rohit finished as India’s leading run scorer in the T20 World Cup 2024, and by winning the Champions Trophy title in Dubai, he became only the sixth captain in the world after Lloyd, Ponting, Dhoni, Daren Sammy, and Pat Cummins to win multiple ICC titles.
