@Source: news18.com
Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Tests on Wednesday. The ‘Hitman’, as he is known to his adoring fans, has left his incredible stamp on the zport of cricket as captain, leading Mumbai Indians to five Indian Premier League (IPL) trophies as well as helping theIndina men’s cricket team to the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Rohit still is the captain in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and in recent interview, opened up on his take on leadership.
“There are 11 players, how to utilise our players in a good way, we should instil confidence in the players. How do we put it, if injustice is being done to a player? There is a little bit of injustice. How will you talk to him – injustice means that he is not getting a chance to play, as only 11 players can play, the rest four people may get a chance, unfortunately,” Rohit said in an interview to journalist Vimal Kumar.
“Like in the World Cup, (Yashavi) Jaiswal and Sanju (Somson) were two boys who did not get a chance, we came in the Champions Trophy, think it was Rishabh Pant who did not play a single game, the rest of us played at least one match. It happens, what can you do?”
“This happened with me in 2011, too. I was not selected for the World Cup. I was disappointed. But I can’t sit and cry about it that I was not selected. I was not selected, I was made to do what I am going through. I have gone through that myself. I know how it feels. So my job is to go and talk to the boys, that this is how it is.”
“It may not be that good because they will say – I have done this and I have done that. But the reality is that right now, for this match or for this tournament, is this the right combination?” he added.

When asked about if he ever felth that captaining the national team would be out of his grasp, given that he was playing in an era that saw first MS Dhoni and then Virat Kohli, Rohit said: “Yes.”
“Because sometimes it happens, everyone wants a young captain who is 10 years, 15 years old, so that captaincy, I also felt that it is possible that I may not get it right now, but I am forever grateful that I got that opportunity. I also know that I cannot be captain for 10 years, but whatever time I get, I have to make the most of it.”
“I have to get the full potential out of it by hook or by crook and whatever opportunity I have,” he added.
