Rohit Sharma Overtakes Shikhar Dhawan To Become 2nd Leading Run Scorer In IPL

Rohit Sharma is playing for the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He opened the innings for the Mumbai-based franchise on Sunday (April 20) against Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and scored 76 runs from 45 balls. During his stay at the crease, Rohit hammered four fours and six sixes and helped MI chase down the target of 177 runs in 15.4 overs for the loss of only one wicket. Rohit added 63 runs for the first wicket with Ryan Rickelton and an unbeaten 114 runs for the second wicket with Suryakumar Yadav, who made 68 off 30 balls with the help of six fours and five sixes. During his 76-run knock, which helped MI win the IPL 2025 match by 9 wickets at Wankhede Stadium, Rohit went past Shikhar Dhawan’s tally of 6769 runs and became the second leading run getter in the IPL. In 264 IPL matches played so far, Rohit has 6786 runs to his name now. Virat has won 19 POTM awards in 260 IPL matches, whereas MS Dhoni has bagged the POTM award on 18 occasions. The overall record of winning most POTM awards in the IPL is held by former RCB batter AB de Villiers. ABD played 184 matches in the IPL for Delhi Capitals and RCB and won 25 POTM awards. He is followed by Chris Gayle, who finished his IPL career with 22 POTM awards in 142 matches.
