The Roma icon believes the Argentine forward is a rare talent, comparing his playing style with the Gialorossi to his own.
Totti hails Dybala as Serie A’s best
Totti, who spent his entire career with Roma, spoke to Viva el Futbol about the state of Serie A and his admiration for Dybala.
The 27-year-old has been a key player for Roma, delivering standout performances against Monza, Venezia, and Porto in the Europa League. Despite battling injuries, Dybala has managed eight goals and four assists this season, following a strong campaign last year.
For Totti, the Argentine stands above the rest in Italy’s top flight. "He is the player who most resembles me today. I struggle to find others in Serie A," he said via TMW.
"Paulo is a true talent, not only in Italy. In my time, there were many, today there are 5 or 6 like him in the world. One of these is Yamal. Dybala is fine now, he doesn’t struggle and he doesn’t stop.
"In Serie A, he is the best, but there are too few in Italy. Guardiola and Baggio once played for Brescia; today, not even their names are known."
Lookman’s stellar form not enough for Totti
Despite Lookman’s outstanding season for Atalanta, the Nigerian forward did not make Totti’s list of elite players.
Lookman has been in scintillating form, scoring 19 goals and providing six assists in all competitions. Like Dybala, he has battled injuries but remains a crucial figure for his team.
However, Totti’s praise remained solely for Dybala, taking a liking to a player who has now inherited his place as Roma’s talisman.
With both players excelling in Serie A, the debate over who reigns supreme in Italy’s top division is bound to continue among other pundits with and without ties to Roma.
