Ronaldo’s next move could rock world football again — 5 possible clubs
@Source: euroweeklynews.com
Cristiano Ronaldo may have just kicked his final ball for Al-Nassr – and true to form, he didn’t go quietly. After bagging the Saudi Pro League’s golden boot with 35 goals, CR7 lit a match under the rumour mill with a cryptic X post: “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.” Cryptic? Yes. Final? Quite possibly.
At 40, Ronaldo might be entering the twilight of his career, but make no mistake — there’s still fire in those boots. With no silverware to show for his Saudi stint and Al-Nassr’s Club World Cup hopes hanging by a thread, Ronaldo’s itchy feet are making headlines again.
So where next for the man who’s conquered Manchester, became an all-time great in Madrid, and sizzled in Saudi? We’ve taken a look at five jaw-dropping — and in some cases eyebrow-raising — destinations that could be next for the Madeira goal machine.
1. Brazil – samba, sunshine and… CR7?
FIFA boss Gianni Infantino dropped a bombshell, during an IShowSpeed interview, teasing: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo might play in the Club World Cup, yeah. There are discussions with some clubs.’
Four Brazilian teams — Botafogo, Fluminense, Flamengo, and Palmeiras — are in the tournament, and Ronaldo’s arrival would set the country alight. Marca even reported a Brazilian club has made an offer. Botafogo’s manager Renato Paiva was coy but didn’t rule it out, telling reporters: “Christmas is only in December. But if he came, you can’t say no to a star like that.”
Ronaldo in Rio? Stranger things have happened. Just ask Neymar.
2. Al-Hilal – the Saudi switcheroo
A move from Al-Nassr to bitter rivals Al-Hilal would be spicy enough. Al-Hilal are cash-rich, Club World Cup-bound, and already in the habit of hoarding big names. Saudi contracts are centralised, meaning a top-down nod could get this deal done without breaking a sweat — or a budget.
And let’s face it, if anyone could make a villain’s entrance in Riyadh, it’s CR7.
3. Monterrey – Real Madrid amigos reunited in Mexico
If the Club World Cup is the goal, then Mexico’s Monterrey are in the mix. The Liga MX giants boast none other than living legend Sergio Ramos — Ronaldo’s former Real Madrid partner-in-shutdown. Could we be about to see the bromance reignited on the world stage?
With a 10-day FIFA transfer window opening just for the tournament, the door is ajar. It would be short, sharp, and sensational — much like Ronaldo himself these days.
4. Esperance Tunis – from Champions League to camel rides?
Now for the wildest card of the lot. Esperance Tunis, the reigning kings of Tunisia, were name-dropped in some media reports — but let’s be honest, this one’s more fantasy football than real deal. Their entire squad is worth under €20 million. Ronaldo earns more in half a season.
Unless they are offering golden camels and beachfront palaces, this rumour belongs in the “doubtful” category. Still, imagine the scenes if it happened…
5. Sporting CP – home sweet home?
Could the prodigal son return? Ronaldo came up through the ranks at Sporting CP, and with Viktor Gyökeres set to leave, there’s a striker-shaped hole in Lisbon. The move would be a fairytale ending to a Hollywood career.
He’s previously claimed a return wasn’t on the cards — but as his X post suggests, this story’s still being written. And who doesn’t love a good homecoming?
A Club World Cup cameo?
Ronaldo’s golden boot may have lost its sheen without trophies, but he’s still a draw — and FIFA knows it. With Club World Cup tickets still gathering dust in the sales bins, Ronaldo might just be the headline act they desperately need.
The new 32-team format kicks off on June 15 in the US, with Messi’s Inter Miami facing Al-Ahly in the opener. The final? Slated for July 13 at MetLife Stadium — and don’t bet against Ronaldo turning up just in time to steal the show.
One last dance?
He may be 40, but CR7’s legs still find the net. The Club World Cup offers him one more stage, one more medal, and one last chance to make the world scream “Siuuuuu!” before the curtain falls.
As for the next chapter? Stay tuned.
