Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll left stunned as daughter, 4, steals the show at the Masters

Rory McIlroy's four-year-old daughter stole the show at the Masters' Par 3 Contest by sinking a monster putt. The event, held on the eve of the showpiece competition at Augusta National, sees players take in the course alongside their loved ones. McIlroy was joined by daughter Poppy and wife Erica Stoll for the light-hearted event. The Northern Irishman played alongside fellow Ryder Cup heroes Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood, who also brought their families along. McIlroy and his group decided to have fun during the contest. Their casual approach was evident when McIlroy jokingly commented on the third hole: "Very impressive display of golf ." Lowry responded, "Have we hit a green yet?" causing laughter among the group. On the fifth hole, Poppy tried to help by picking up Lowry's ball that fell short of the green. After instructing her to put it back, McIlroy told Lowry: "She's doing you a favour." On the same hole, Lowry let his daughter take a putt, which she successfully made, earning cheers from the crowd. But it was Poppy who stole the show on the ninth hole as she showed her dad how it's done. From some distance out, Poppy gave the ball a light tap, with the green's slope helping to send it straight into the hole. Lowry led the celebrations alongside McIlroy, though Poppy appeared to be less than impressed. She maintained a straight face and even appeared to yawn before wrapping into McIlroy's arms with a comforting hug. While his daughter was less than impressed, McIlroy insisted all who participated had fun. “Yeah, very cool,” he said when asked about the moment. "It’s just such a fun afternoon. Being out there with Shane (Lowry) and Tommy (Fleetwood) and their families, we’re all very, very close. "So to have the kids out there and them having fun is the most important thing. It’s a really nice way to sort of end the preparation going into what is the serious part of the week. So it’s nice to be able to get out here and do this. "We're waiting nine months from the last major so to end your preparations with such a fun afternoon is great. If you're not ready by now, you don't have a chance. Let's have fun, go home, have dinner and rest and relax for Thursday." McIlroy is one of the favourites to win this year's Masters and finally complete a career Grand Slam. His bid to don the Green Jacket received a superstitious boost as he able to avoid the notorious Par 3 Curse. Since the contest started in 1960, nobody has ever become par-three and Masters champion in the same week, a fact which often sees players deliberately not shoot the best score possible. Colombia ’s Nico Echavarria won Thursday's contest, birdieing the second extra hole to beat American JJ Spaun in a play-off after the pair completed the nine-hole course in five under par. US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and five-time major winner Brooks Koepka both made a hole-in-one on the sixth, while fellow American Tom Hoge recorded an ace on the fourth. Last year, McIlroy announced he was to divorce his wife Erica just before the US PGA before reconciling later that summer. Erica and Poppy have regularly been alongside Rory since, taking in his DP World Tour Championship win in Dubai last year. And both will stick around at Augusta this week, with the presence of his family helping him to keep him in check during what promises to be a rollercoaster four days. "Yeah, look, it definitely makes the lows a little easier to take," Rory said about Poppy being part of his team. "The highs are going to be high anyway, but it's amazing -- I think especially after The Players, I think it was the first time that she sort of realised what I did, which was really cool. Also a little scary at the same time. “Yeah, look, it's amazing that I can share these things with her and with Erica and -- the day after The Players, she went into school and there was a couple of kids that had said some stuff to her, and she came home to me that day and said, Daddy, are you famous? "I said: 'It depends who you talk to!' It's a bit of a double-edged sword. You have to temper the expectations sometimes. "As everyone knows that's had children, it's an amazing addition to life, and it's great that she's here this week.”
