The 2025 PGA Championship will be Rory McIlroy's first without the cloud of his 11-year major championship drought hanging over his head. Of course, the Northern Irishman got the job done at The Masters this year, coming out on top of a final-round pairing with Bryson DeChambeau and a playoff with Justin Rose.The duel between McIlroy and DeChambeau was one of the biggest stories in sports heading into that final round. The two are arguably the two biggest stars in golf and are polar opposites in many ways.However, DeChambeau claimed after McIlroy's victory that the eventual champion didn't talk to him at all during that final round.On Wednesday, McIlroy addressed the situation."I don't know what he was expecting," McIlroy said. "We're trying to win the Masters. I'm not going to try to be his best mate out there."Look, everyone approaches the game different ways. I was focused on myself and what I needed to do and that's really all that it was. It wasn't anything against him, I felt that's what I needed to do to try to get the best out of myself that day."McIlroy's plan that day clearly worked out in his favor, as he was able to play the more solid golf of the two even when he did have some adversity to shake off. DeChambeau briefly took the lead early in the round and then fell quickly out of contention.Considering how Quail Hollow is set up for the PGA Championship, which gets underway on Thursday, fans could be in store for another duel between McIlroy and DeChambeau.McIlroy has won at Quail Hollow four times during his career, including a dominant triumph at the Wells Fargo Championship last year.
