Rory McIlroy: 'I don't care' about PGA Tour, LIV Negotiations, Board Business
@Source: newsweek.com
After two days of play, Rory McIlroy is in contention to defend at the Truist Championship. Still, the media wanted his thoughts on the never-ending LIV Golf and PGA Tour negotiations.For a long time, McIlroy was essentially the poster child of the PGA Tour. He defended the Tour and was quite vocal about his distaste for LIV. His tune changed over the last year, though, and now he does not focus on it."I think at this point, I don't care," McIlroy said."Certainly not involved too much in the politics of everything, and even not being involved — being on the board of this TOUR and talking about changes to the Tour Championship and all that, like I have no idea what's going on.""I want to play golf, and I got into this game to shoot scores and try to play the best golf possible and not be concerned about how the Tour is run or the business of the TOUR. It was good to do it. It was a great experience. But I'm happy with where I'm at right now."McIlroy has a lot going on without being on the Board anymore. He and Tiger Woods are heavily involved with the TGL, plus his other obligations. The Northern Irishman seems to have re-evaluated his priorities and focused on himself rather than the Tour's status.This season has been a dream start for him. He won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, then The PLAYERS, and last month completed the Career Grand Slam by winning the Masters.His worst finish came at the Genesis Invitational with a T17.In his first solo start since he conquered Augusta National, the 36-year-old sits tied for fourth at the Truist Championship (formerly the Wells Fargo).After two rounds, McIlroy is 7-under overall and five shots off the leader, Keith Mitchell.The Wissahickon Course at Philadelphia Cricket Club bit back at McIlroy on Friday. He made six birdies and three bogeys to sign for a 3-under 67 to follow up his 4-under 66 from Round 1."I felt like today was another scrappy one," he noted. "I made what I feel are some uncharacteristic mistakes compared to how I've played the majority of the year. Got to iron that out over the next couple of days, try to shoot a couple of scores without as many bogeys. If I can do that and tidy it up, I feel I'll be in a good spot heading into next week."McIlroy lost strokes in both strokes gained approach and around the green. However, his flat stick helped him out a ton. On Friday, the five-time major champion made over 126 feet in putts and picked up +2.774 in strokes gained putting.Through 36 holes of play, he sits tied with Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Akshay Bhatia, Si Woo Kim and Patrick Cantlay heading into the weekend.More Golf: Tiger Woods' Son, Charlie, Falters at U.S. Open Qualifying, With a Catch
