Rory McIlroy Misses 4-Foot Putt to Win The Masters, Heads to Playoff
@Source: newsweek.com
Rory McIlroy had plenty of chances to win The Masters on Sunday at Augusta National, and for a while he seemed to be squandering every one.McIlroy generated one last chance in regulation for himself with an incredible shot to set up a birdie on the 17th hole. Needing a par on No. 18, McIlroy striped his drive, but just hung his wedge approach out to the right and into the green side bunker.A solid bunker shot left McIlroy with four feet left for par to win the tournament and get the career grand slam. His roll started toward the hole before just drifting off to the left under the hole, sending the Northern Irishman to a playoff with Justin Rose.McIlroy seemed to have the tournament in the bag multiple times before making a double bogey on the par-5 13th and a bogey on 14 to bring him back to the field.Rose has the experience in a playoff scenario. In fact, the last time The Masters went to a playoff was in 2017 when the Englishman lost out to Sergio Garcia.Rose, who led the tournament after each of the first two rounds, shot an amazing round of 6-under 66 on Sunday to shoot back up the leaderboard and into a tie for the lead after 72 holes.There is certainly mountains of pressure on McIlroy even as he gets into the playoff. He has had some of the lowest moments of his career at Augusta National, and Sunday would certainly top the list if he is unable to get the job done especially after missing a short putt to win it.More Golf: Bryson DeChambeau's Masters Collapse Has Fans Trashing the LIV Golfer
