Rory McIlroy play-off start time, TV channel, opponent and more from The Players Championship
@Source: irishmirror.ie
Rory McIlroy is back in action this afternoon when he takes on JJ Spaun in a three-hole play-off to determine the winner of the 2025 Players Championship.
Having led by three shots late on Sunday, McIlroy could only watch as Spaun reeled off two Birdies to level proceedings, with the pair tied on -12 after 72 holes of golf.
While the pair would normally have played out the play-off on Sunday, lack of daylight due to an earlier four-hour rain delay meant the play-off had to be rescheduled for Monday.
That means the Players Championship extends into a fifth day and for fans in Ireland and the UK, we are in for a rare treat as these play-offs traditionally take place in the early hours of the morning. Instead, today's three-hole play-off will kick off at lunchtime.
Here's all you need to know about today's action:
When and where is the Players Championship playoff?
The Players Championship will take place on Monday, March 17 at TPC Sawgrass.
How can I watch it and when does it start?
Sky Sports Golf are showing the play-off live from 1pm. Streaming is available on Now TV and Sky Go with a subscription.
Who is in the play-off?
Just two players finished tied at the top of the leaderboard, so it will be Rory McIlroy v JJ Spaun on Monday afternoon.
What is the format?
The play-off will be held over three holes - 16th, 17th and 18th. The best aggregate score will determine the winner.
If level after those three holes the play-off will move into sudden death and begin at 17 and move to 18 if required.
If there is still no winner, then the sudden death will begin again at 16, move to 17 is required and again to 18.
What did Rory say after Sunday?
"It's been a long day. I got off to a great start before play was halted. And once we got back out there, I made the perfect start again with a birdie at 12.
"On the way in, I feel like I gave myself chances to close the door and win this golf tournament - and I didn't quite do that. I'm going to have to do it the hard way, stay one more night and try to do it tomorrow."
