Ruben Amorim gives telling Bruno Fernandes update amid Real Madrid transfer link

Ruben Amorim insists Bruno Fernandes is staying at Manchester United this summer – because he has told him so. But Amorim refused to say if there is a way back at United for Marcus Rashford - after the forward scored the first goals of his loan spell at Aston Villa. United skipper Fernandes has been linked with a move away this summer, with Real Madrid among the clubs interested in the £50million-rated Portuguese playmaker. But United boss Amorim has slammed the door shut on Fernandes going anywhere this summer, claiming he has told his compatriot he is too valuable to the team to be allowed to leave. “No, it’s not going to happen,” said Amorim, when asked if Fernandes could leave this summer. "He’s not going anywhere because I’ve already told him! “I want Bruno here because we want to win the Premier League again, so we want the best players to continue with us. He’s 30, but he’s still so young, because he plays 55 games every season. “Between assists and goals, he’s there for 30 at least, so he’s the type of player we want here and he’s not going anywhere.” Fernandes signed a new contract last summer until 2027, with the option of an extra year, with Amorim claiming the skipper is happy at United and wants to help take the club back to the top. “We're in control of the situation and I feel that he's really happy here,” said Amorim. “Especially because he understands what we want to do and I also think he's one more supporter of United. “He really feels it. Sometimes the frustration that you see, that everybody sees and maybe says is not a good thing in a captain, is a sign that he wants this so bad. This is the kind of player we want.” On Rashford, who scored twice in Villa's 3-0 FA Cup win at Preston, Amorim said: "I know Rashford really well and everybody knows the talent that he has. He’s a top player - if he wants [to be]. So I’m not surprised. It’s a good thing we see our players doing well on loan in a different context. "I’m planning the future, but I don’t want to talk about the future at this moment. I just want to focus on the game."
