Ruben Amorim is set to add two players to his strongest Man Utd squad for pre-season

Manchester United will soon embark on their pre-season endeavours in the US. Ruben Amorim and his players will take part in the Premier League's annual 'Summer Series' tournament with friendlies against West Ham United, Everton and Bournemouth all in the calendar later this month. But with exits expected before then, with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia all informing United officials they wish to leave , the chance for two youngsters to impress has never been better. As we saw in the Red Devils' post-season tour in Asia, opportunities were handed to the likes of Sekou Kone, Jack Moorhouse, Dan Armer and Reece Munro, as Amorim looks to help nurture the next generation. But after Diego Leon's recent comments and the confirmation of his arrival , the 18-year-old may have a tailor-made chance to impress at a juncture when United really need him the most. A capable left-wing back, it's a role that has caused Amorim huge issues already since his arrival at Old Trafford . Luke Shaw's injury problems and age probably mean he cannot cope with the physical demands placed on him in the position. Patrick Dorgu will no doubt enjoy a better season, and we can expect him to assume the natural left-wing back role in the Premier League , with Harry Amass there to step in when needed, given his breakthrough campaign in 2024/25. But if injuries, like they have done so frequently for Amorim and other United managers, rear their ugly head once again, Dorgu may then switch to the right and thus, an opportunity may arise for Leon. We expect Leon to make up part of United's pre-season squad for the upcoming tour in the US, and that valuable time will serve him well in getting to grips with his team-mates and what the boss wants from him moving forward. Another notable name to watch out for is, of course, Chido Obi, with United's striker situation so up in the air. There had been some suggestions that the teenager would be heading out on loan, but with Rasmus Hojlund's future unknown, pre-season will be another huge chance for the former Arsenal man to stake a claim. Obi found the net impressively in United's clash with HK, China in Asia and looked overjoyed to have scored his first senior goal, after being teed up by Mason Mount and linking up well with the Three Lions international well during his second-half cameo. Those kinds of relationships, as mentioned with Leon, will be vital to Obi, and we have already seen how much of a fan Amorim is of the young Dane, especially given his imperious goalscoring at youth level. It's that youth, courage, success mantra that should stand Amorim in good stead should he need it, but with transfers slowing, he may have to call on the academy again as the countdown to pre-season continues to close in.
