Ruben Amorim speaks out on Rasmus Hojlund role amid Manchester United goalscoring struggles

Ruben Amorim has stressed Manchester United are discussing plans to improve their squad "every day" amid their abysmal goalscoring record. United lost their 15th Premier League game of the season at home to Wolves and failed to score for the 13th time this season, leaving them with a -8 goal difference. United have also lost eight times at Old Trafford for the first time since 1962-63. £72million striker Rasmus Hojlund has scored one goal in 28 games and only registered in six of his 45 appearances for the club this season. United are expected to prioritise a striker signing in the summer transfer window but it is unclear if they will move for a proven goalscorer or another up-and-coming frontman. Amorim suggested he is unprepared to drop Hojlund during United's run-in. Support striker Joshua Zirkzee has been ruled out for the rest of the season and the 17-year-old Chido Obi replaced Hojlund in the second half against Wolves. "We will address that in the end," Amorim assured. "Of course, we have a plan, we talk about that every day but the season is not over, so let’s focus on that. “I think again it’s a team thing. Of course, we have an idea of what this team needs but also the guys we play with at least three guys in front, they can score goals. We play with midfielders that can reach and you see it today in the game. "All the team needs to score more goals and you have opportunities with the midfielders, with the striker, we need to improve as a team. If you do not score goals in this league it is impossible to win games. "I think if you look at the games, we have several players that missed big chances, not just Rasmus. But for Rasmus, the game is to score goals because he is a striker. "But it is a team thing. I have already said that. Our team should score more goals, it is not just Rasmus missing chances, it is all the team. "The only way I know is to work on him, show him the videos. He needed to score a goal, he will not score if he’s out (of the team). So I try to manage that during games. But he needs to score one, maybe that’s all a striker needs." Wolves did the double over United for the first time since 1979-80 to put them level on points with Amorim's side. United are 14th but could finish as low as 17th. "If you look at the game, we were the better team," Amorim opined, "but in the end, it doesn’t matter because if we don’t score goals, nothing matters. In the end what counts is the result, especially in these kinds of moments. "We create a lot of chances, we had a game, we control the game, we blocked some good players from the opponent and one set piece changes the game and that’s it. It’s really frustrating to end the game like this."
