Rugby team pull off 100m 'try of the century' before last second disaster

A French Rugby Club almost scored the try of the century but were denied at the last moment in devastating circumstances. Narbonne were facing Bourg-en-Bresse in the French third division - Championnat Fédéral Nationale. With a deep kick from the opposition finding its way towards the Narbonne try line, full-back Boris Goutard collected the ball inside the in goal area. What happened next was simply brilliant. A relentless exchange of offloading and evasion just five metres from their own try line resulted in a fantastic break on the right flank through Fijian Luke Nakobukobua. Another sequence of constant support lanes and pop passes eventually resulted in what looked to be a try for the ages. But, haring his way towards the white wash, Narbonne scrumhalf Pierrick Nova was tackled by an opponent and ended up losing control of the ball as he crossed the line, with the referee ruling out the effort. You can check out this crazy sequence of play below. Although they secured a bonus point win at 34–17, they could’ve had the fifth point wrapped up much earlier in the match with this outrageous move. Narbonne coach Bryce Mach could be seen in the stands absolutely awe-struck that his team hadn’t scored, and Nova has explained what was going through his mind when he was running towards the try line. He told L'Independant: "I think the guy kicks the ball as he touches down, but whatever happens, I'm missing those 50 centimetres to go all the way. I'm not frustrated for myself, but rather for the audacity of the guys and this 100-metre restart. "They've already started to tease me. It's going to continue for a week. I'll have to make up for it in the next match. But I'm especially happy that it won't affect the offensive bonus."
