The ten-part series, titled The Other Bennet Sister, is adapted from Janice Hadlow's novel and delves into the tale of Pride And Prejudice but from the perspective of Mary Bennet, played by Call The Midwife actress Ella Bruccoleri. Gavin & Stacey star and writer Jones will feature as Mrs Bennet and Richard E. Grant as been confirmed as Mr Bennet, Mary's parents. Meanwhile Indira Varma and Richard Coyle will play Mr and Mrs Gardiner, Mary's aunt and uncle. Laurie Davidson and Dónal Finn have also been cast as Mr. Ryder and Mr. Hayward. Jones's new role means that she shares a surprising link with her Gavin & Stacey co-star Steadman. However, Steadman once played Mrs Bennet in 1995's Pride And Prejudice, the same role Jones is set to play now. The new series is set to hit screens next year and will air on BBC One. First look images showed a clap board with the date, 2nd June 2025, and a photo of a straw hat. BBC boss Lindsay Salt gushed over the 'perfect' cast and said: 'It's a joy to see cameras rolling on our vibrant, witty and clever new take on Jane Austen's beloved world. 'With a pitch perfect cast led by Ella, Ruth and Richard, The Other Bennet Sister will be an irresistible treat for viewers when it launches on the BBC next year.' TV producer Jane Tranter revealed the show had been in the works for 'years'. She added: 'We have been working behind the scenes on The Other Bennet Sister for many years now, and Janice's brilliantly observed characters have lived and grown in our imaginations throughout that time as Sarah has been working on the scripts. 'So our actors had a lot to live up to - and I can honestly say that this is the ensemble cast of our dreams. Steadman portrayed Pam Shipman (left) in the popular sitcom, while Jones played Nessa (centre) However, Steadman once played Mrs Bennet in 1995's Pride And Prejudice, the same role Jones is set to play now 'Each one brings something new and exciting to the world of Austen. And all of us at Bad Wolf are delighted to be making a drama that brings such joy.' It comes as TV fans were left gripped by a 'masterpiece' period drama when it was finally made free to stream. The English, written and directed by Hugo Blick, hit our screens back in 2022. The revisionist Western six-part series landed on Amazon Prime Video in the US, but was also released on BBC Two for those in the UK. Although it was released three years ago, some have only just noticed the drama is available to watch on iPlayer. BBC described the show as: 'An aristocratic Englishwoman, Lady Cornelia Locke (Emily Blunt) and a Pawnee ex-cavalry scout, Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer) come together in 1890 mid-America to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood. 'Both of them have a clear sense of their destiny but neither is aware that it is rooted in a shared past. 'They must face increasingly terrifying obstacles that will test them to their cores, physically and psychologically. 'But as each obstacle is overcome it draws them closer to their ultimate destination, the new town of Hoxem, Wyoming. Malcolm Storry, Nichola McAuliffe, Cristian Solimeno, Miguel Alvarez, Steve Wall, Fary Farmer Kimberly Norris Guerrero, Tonantzin Carmelo and Jon Bermudez also appear i the programme.
