Ryan Thomas was left having a laugh at his own expense as he jokingly questioned what Lucy Mecklenburgh may have thought when they first met amid reports he's set to return to Coronation Street . The actor and TV star is famed for having played builder Jason Grimshaw in the ITV soap. Manchester-born Ryan arrived in 2000 and later left the Street in 2016. However his character Jason was not killed off and instead he emigrated to Thailand and has been mentioned by his mum Eileen Grimshaw on numerous occasion since. But after getting tasked with some home DIY recently by his fiancée Lucy, Ryan seemingly joked about his past alter-ego. He posted a video of a unit of drawers with long handles not quite looking level. He said from behind the camera: "So Lucy gave me one job, to put handles on the drawers and they're on... the p*ss," before he started to laugh. "That is not right, that is not right and that's also not right," he went on to say, with his trademark laugh, as he pointed at each of the handles. The former soap star also quipped in the caption of the clip: "I think she thought I was actually a real builder when she met me," adding a crying laughing emoji. It comes after rumours suggested Ryan, who retired from acting in 2021, will return to Weatherfield as his character's mum Eileen prepares to permanently depart the cobbles, following actress Sue Cleaver's decision to leave the much-loved show after 25 years. "It was a no brainer for Ryan to return when he was asked - it's all for Sue," a source told The Sun. "She's like a second mum to him and he was willing to do anything to make her send off as special as she deserves it to be. He's not acted for a while so it's a bit daunting but he played Jason for so long that he's looking forward to going back to the cobbles." Ryan announced his retirement from acting almost four years ago, saying on the Mancs on the Mic podcast: "I started off acting, I started off in that game and I really lost the big for it. I feel the reason for losing the bug is rejection and going to auditions and not getting them." He went on to appear on Celebrity Masterchef in 2022, and Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, which he won. Last year, Ryan then won Dancing on Ice.
