THE Sables are back in business. Zimbabwe’s senior men’s rugby team has kicked off official field sessions as they gear up for the high stakes Rugby Africa Cup set for 20 to 28 July in Uganda.
Sunday’s session at Harare Sports Club saw a strong turnout with a solid core of last year’s title winning squad, including both local and international stars, reporting for duty.
This year’s Africa Cup is no ordinary tournament. It is a direct ticket to the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia and only one African team will book the coveted spot.
Zimbabwe, the defending champions, enter the tournament as top seeds and will begin their campaign at the quarter final stage against Morocco.
If they overcome the North Africans, the Sables will face the winner of the heated East African derby between Kenya and Uganda in the semi finals.
On the other side of the draw, Algeria clash with Côte d’Ivoire while Namibia square off against Senegal.
The pressure is real but the Sables are hungry. It has been over three decades since Zimbabwe last featured at the Rugby World Cup.
Now, with camp in full swing and the dream alive, the boys in green and white are ready to soar.
