Hemlock rolled to the Tri-Valley Conference girls tennis title Friday at the Midland Tennis Center, claiming six flight championships.
The conference meet title, coupled with an undefeated record in the TVC, gave Hemlock back-to-back conference championships.
The Huskies swept the singles championships behind Carly Siler, Victoria Hauffe, Anna Nurnberg and Lindsey Tausch.
Hemlock also won two doubles championships with Bree Bierman and Lily Wenzel at No. 2 doubles and Alathea McMillan and Olivia Ann Chasnis at No. 3 doubles.
The No. 4 doubles team of Lani Wardin and Kennedy Krabill earned second-team honors, while the No. 1 doubles team of Claire Beck and Allie Watson were honorable mention.
Swan Valley 8-4, Bullock Creek 5-3: Beckett Goldensoph struck out three in three innings of relief to earn the Game 1 win for Swan Valley. Jaxon Hartley, Brady Stephens and Colton Klein had two hits each, with Jack Lagan, Stephens and Chaz Malacos driving in two runs each. Emerson Johnson led Bullock Creek with two hits. Nolan Selasky drove in two runs for Swan Valley in Game 2, with Aiden Lafond throwing a no-hit inning in relief. The game was called after 2 ½ innings.
Ithaca 5-6, Michigan Lutheran Seminary 2-7: Collin Thrush struck out four and did not allow an earned run in five innings, leading Ithaca to the Tri-Valley Conference win in the opener. Carson Shankel led the offense with two hits, while Will Salgat and Caleb Martin had a hit and RBI each for MLS. Simeon Kober allowed three hits and no earned runs in three innings. Seminary scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the Game 2 win and a split. Salgat led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while Noah Reif had a hit, RBI, walk and two runs. Silas Hill earned the win with one inning of no-hit relief, striking out two. Thrush and Shankel had two hits each for Ithaca.
Swan Valley 11-9, Bullock Creek 0-8: Mia Robinson threw a one-hit shutout in the opener, striking out eight in the Swan Valley win. Violet Boehler had two hits, two RBIs and three runs, while Layla Shanks drove in three RBIs with four hits. Izzy Coffel drove in two runs. Boehler, Shanks and Coffel hit homers. Lillian Coyle paced Bullock Creek with two walks. Swan Valley trailed 8-1 going into the sixth inning before scoring eight runs to snare the 9-8 win in the nightcap. Coffel and Boehler had three hits each, with Coffel driving in three. Alivia Guilbeaux added two hits, with Hailey Koch hitting a homer and driving in two runs. Dakota Swift had two hits, including a homer, for the Lancers.
Bad Axe Hatchet Invitational: Frankenmuth claimed the Hatchet Invite title with 170 points, with Birch Run fifth (60) and Reese 10th (29). Brayden Karwat led the Eagles with wins in the 110 hurdles (:15.88) and 300 hurdles (:42.26). Other Frankenmuth winners included Anthony Plana in the 800 (2:05.97) and Niko Mamaladze in the discus (155-7). Birch Run’s Alex Maya won the pole vault (12-6).
Akron-Fairgrove Invitational: Michigan Lutheran Seminary won the Large School division with 139 points, followed by Valley Lutheran in third (124), Millington fourth and Saginaw Arts & Sciences ninth. Hale won the Small School division with Merrill eighth. MLS got a first place from Logan Broekhuizen in the shot put (50-10). The Cardinals also won the 3,200 relay in 9:01.48 (Lance Hatfield, Logan Whitmer, MJ Flowers, Camden Fager). Jayden Fox gave Valley Lutheran wins in the 1,600 (4:47.23) and 3,200 (10:20.46), with Trent Schiavone adding a title in the 800 (2:06.07), with a leg on the winning 1,600 relay. The Chargers also got firsts from Noah Hecht in the high jump (5-10) and the 800 relay team. Dallas Walsh led Millington with wins in the 100 (:11.32) and 200 (:23.33), with a leg on the winning 400 relay. Millington’s Preston Rancour won the discus (128-1 ½).
Alma Panther Invite: Alma won the boys division with 177.83 points, with Ithaca fourth (49.83), Breckenridge fifth (47) and St. Charles seventh (32). Pewamo-Westphalia won the girls division, with Breckenridge third. Thomas Larson led Alma to the title with wins in the 800 (1:58.90) and 1,600 (4:24.80), adding a leg on the winning 3,200 relay. Ithaca’s Landen Styka took first in the 3,200 (9:49.79).
Girls Track
Bad Axe Hatchet Invitational: Sara Leach won two events, leading Frankenmuth to the Hatchet Invite title with 164 points. Birch Run was eighth (29.5) and Reese 10th (22). Leach won the 200 (:27.75) and long jump (16-3), adding a leg on Frankenmuth’s winning 800 relay (1:52.21). Lucy Conzelmann claimed the 400 title (1:01.25) and ran a leg on the winning 3,200 relay. Other Frankenmuth winners included Elise Barden in the 800 (2:26.77), Natalie Foltz in the 3,200 (11:16.14) and Rosemary Brenner in the high jump (5-0).
Akron-Fairgrove Invitational: Valley Lutheran won the Large School division with 150.5 points, with Millington fourth (85), Michigan Lutheran Seminary fifth (79.5) and Saginaw Arts & Sciences seventh (28). Mckenzie Derusha paced the Chargers with wins in the 100 hurdles (:16.28) and 300 hurdles (:48.74), with a leg on the winning 1,600 relay. Ava Kelsey also ran on the 1,600 relay and added a first in the long jump (14-6). Kendelle Klemish won the shot put (33-11 ½) for Valley Lutheran, which also won the 3,200 relay. Abigail Reis gave Millington wins in the 1,600 (5:34.41) and 3,200 (12:21.38), while Chloe Basner won the 100 (:12.69) and ran a leg on the winning 800 relay.
Girls Soccer
Midland High 4, Nouvel 1: Midland High remained undefeated with the non-conference win. Elliott Hays gave the 15-0 Chemics a 1-0 halftime lead off an assist from Alahna Beckett, who opened the second half with a goal off an assist from Ameris Blumenschein. After a Nouvel goal, Blumenschein scored on a Beckett assist before Hays finished the scoring for Midland. Ellee Arnold and Cady McPeak earned the win in goal.
Hemlock 6, Pinconning 1: Delta College commit Izzy Curry scored three goals with two assists to pace Hemlock in the non-conference win. Izzy Krueger added two goals, with Grace Murtha scoring her first varsity goal. Taryn Pratt earned the win with seven saves in goal.
Big Thumb Jamboree: Bryce Martin and Brad Coleman each shot 36s to lead Millington to a win Friday in a Big Thumb Jamboree. Landon German followed with a 38.
