Saginaw-area sports highlights: Heritage girls lacrosse team makes mark with 25 goals

The Heritage girls lacrosse team put their name among the elite in Michigan high school history, scoring 25 goals Wednesday to earn a Saginaw Valley League win. The Hawks knocked off Lapeer, 25-0, with the 25 goals ranking third for the most scored in a single game in MHSAA girls lacrosse history, two short of the record. Breeghan Hamilton paced the scoring with six goals, followed by Lily Huffman with four. Michaela Hamilton and Claire Starke followed with three goals each, while Izzy Ella Sopcak and Jacie Murdock added two goals each. Single-goal scorers included Addison Smith, Payton Colley, Mallory Arkwood, Lexie Brown and Riley Spry. Brown also led the Hawks with two assists, while Breeghan Hamilton paced the team with three interceptions. Molly Baldwin stopped all three shots for the shutout. TVC Meet at Essexville Garber: Christopher Churchill won the 110 hurdles (:15.14) and 300 hurdles (:43.03), adding a leg on the winning 800 relay to lead Alma in a Tri-Valley Conference triangular that included Freeland and Garber. Alex Reyes added wins in the 200 (:53.24) and 400 (:53.24), with Ezekiel Baltierra winning the 800 (2:08.24), Matthew Riebel the shot put (42-8), Caylibe Thompson the discus (123-3), Kias Martin the high jump (5-6) and Cayetano Martinez the long jump (17-9 ½) for Alma. Max Heyn gave Freeland a first place in the 100 (:11.01). TVC Meet at Michigan Lutheran Seminary: Seminary’s Joey Cain claimed a pair of wins in the shot put (45-11 ½) and discus (133-3) in a Tri-Valley Conference triangular that also included Carrollton and Ithaca. Lance Hatfield added a win in the 400 (:54.53), with Andrew Miller winning the long jump (18-0 ¾), Joe Liu the 300 hurdles (:45.79) and Camden Fager the 800 (2:08.65). Winners for Ithaca included Devin Skinner in the 100 (:11.70), Harper Merchant in the 200 (:23.73), Landen Styka in the 1,600 (4:56.32), Jacob Mankey in the 3,200 (11:02.78), Gavin Gilbert in the 110 hurdles (:18.38), Austin Barancik in the pole vault (9-6) and Devyn Fisher in the high jump (5-8). MSAC Meet at St. Charles: Breckenridge scored 119 points to beat out Coleman (87) and St. Charles (74) for the Mid-State Activities conference meet title at St. Charles. Merrill finished eighth with 15 points. Trey Most paced the Huskies with wins in the 400 (:54.18) and high jump (5-6), with a leg on Breckenridge’s winning 1,600 relay (3:44.08). Breckenridge’s other winners were Maddax McCaw in the 110 hurdles (:17.67), Andrew Clark in the shot put (49-11) and Zander Mapes in the discus (161-3). Coleman’s Gage Lawrence won the pole vault (9-6). MMAC Meet at Birch Run: Birch Run’s Donte Hart dominated the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference meet, winning the 100 (:11.52), 200 (:23.99) and 400 (:53.22), with a leg on Birch Run’s winning 1,600 relay. Calob Billings also won three events for the Panthers in the 110 hurdles (:19.09), 300 hurdles (:47.18) and discus (118-1), with a leg on the winning 400 relay. Jace Thomas claimed two Birch Run wins in the 1,600 (5:10.23) and 3,200 (11:02.87), with Alex Martinus taking first in the 800 (2:18.71) and Alex Maya winning the pole vault (11-6). JPC Meet at Standish-Sterling: Tyler Heal claimed a pair of wins in the 1,600 (4:57.34) and 3,200 (10:31.80), adding a leg on Sanford Meridian’s winning 1,600 relay team in a Jack Pine Conference triangular that included Farwell and Standish-Sterling. Other Meridian winners included Adrian Bunn in the 400 (:59.35), Remyngton Clish in the 800 (2:20.36), Logan Holzinger in the 110 hurdles (:17.65), James Schroder in the 300 hurdles (:46.59) and Carter Miller in the pole vault (11-0). Girls Track TVC Meet at Essexville Garber: Joy Evans won the 200 (:27.29) and the long jump (15-8 ½), adding legs on Alma’s winning 800 relay and 1,600 relay to lead the Panthers in a Tri-Valley Conference triangular that included Freeland and Garber. Other Alma winners included Vivian Wickes in the 3,200 (13:35.38), Lilianna Turk in the 100 (:13.73), Reese Kress in the 110 hurdles (:17.83), Allison Sandro in the 300 hurdles (:51.67) and Myra Unruh in the discus (95-8). Freeland’s Clara Kaczor earned wins in the 400 (1:02.18) and 800 (2:32.49), with Payton Maxey winning the shot put (34-11), Jozelynn Begick the high jump (4-6) and Gabriella Dallas the 1,600 (5:54.79). TVC Meet at Michigan Lutheran Seminary: Myleigh Hephner won the 800 (2:36.87) and Emma Dawe the 300 hurdles (:56.07), with both adding legs on Ithaca’s winning 1,600 relay and 3,200 relay in a Tri-Valley Conference triangular that included Carrollton and Ithaca. Other Ithaca winners included Madison Montgomery in the 100 (:13.79), Mara Acker in the 200 (:28.29), Khloe Lehnst in the 1,600 (5:51.78), Isabella Strand in the 3,200 (13:54.28), Kynley Rademacher in the 110 hurdles (:19.58), Izze Merlino in the shot put (30-0 ¾), Izabelle LaLone in the long jump (14-9 ½) and Sage Lamey in the pole vault (8-0). MLS claimed wins behind Brooke Frederick in the 400 (1:05.49), Gabby Fisk in the discus (87-7) and Kara Munson in the high jump (4-6). MSAC Meet at St. Charles: BayLeigh Clapp led Breckenridge to a win in the Mid-State Activities Conference meet at St. Charles with 163 points. St. Charles was fifth (51), Coleman eighth (22) and Merrill ninth (19). Clapp won the 100 (:13.52) and long jump (16-3 ¾), with legs on the winning 400 relay and 1,600 relay. Other Breckenridge winners were Da’sia Denwiddie in the 200 (:28.19), Kylo Reidel in the 110 hurdles (:17.91) and EmaLee Noack in the high jump (5-0). MMAC Meet at Birch Run: Kylie Mausolf won the 800 (2:42.32) and 1,600 (5:50.84), with Chloe Koskinen taking firsts in the 3,200 (14:05.46) and pole vault (7-3) for Birch Run. Christian Jarbou added wins in the discus (79-6) and shot put (34-3), while Lillian Kisser finished first in the 400 (1:13.88), with legs on Birch Run’s winning 1,600 relay and 3,200 relay. JPC Meet at Standish-Sterling: Alexis Cryderman won the 200 (30:08) and ran a leg in the Sanford Meridian’s winning 400 relay in a Jack Pine Conference triangular that included Farwell and Standish-Sterling. Mikenna Nagel added a win in the 3,200 (13:46.46) with a leg on the winning 3,200 relay, while Marlee Kelly gave Meridian a first in the 100 (:13.98). Ithaca 6, Merrill 4: Ithaca outlasted Merrill, winning the non-conference game in extra innings. Ethan Mattson started for the Vandals, striking out nine in six innings. Braden Buckley finished with four strikeouts in two innings. Buckley and Mattson led the offense with two hits each, with Mattson driving in two runs. Girls Soccer Valley Lutheran 5, Hemlock 1: Linden Pomaville scored three goals to give Valley Lutheran the Tri-Valley Conference win. Bella Buckholz and Reagan Webb added single goals each for the 3-3 Chargers. Izzy Krueger scored the lone goal for 4-5 Hemlock, while Taryn Pratt and Maddie Wenzel combined to make 21 saves in goal for the Huskies. Midland High 9, Heritage 0: Sydney Fulcher scored two times in the first 29 seconds, leading Midland High to the Saginaw Valley League win. Alahna Beckett, Ameris Blumenschein, Niobe Marchaland, Jensyn Ardouin, Moriah Fulcher, Hannah Murtha and Lizzy Striebel added single goals. Assists went to Blumenschein, Ardouin, Moriah Fulcher, Zoe Steger, Marchaland, Murtha and Beckett. Marchaland and Cady McPeak shared time in goal for the shutout. Montrose 9, Millington 1: EmmaLeigh Peters scored the lone goal for Millington, with Savanna Bemiss adding the assist. Kendra Peterson had 28 saves in goal for the 4-3 Cardinals. TVC Blue Jamboree: Nouvel won the title in the first Tri-Valley Conference jamboree of the season at The Fields Course in Ithaca. Nouvel finished with a 314, followed by Valley Lutheran (324), Ithaca (357) and Hemlock (364). Valley Lutheran freshman Reid Schisler claimed medalist honors with a 2-under 68, followed by Nouvel’s Alex McCarthy (73), Nouvel’s Ty Iamurri (79), Ithaca’s Harper Merchant (81) and Valley Lutheran’s Jacob Parker (81). Birch Run Dual: Birch Run shot a 180 in a Mid-Michigan Activities meet against Mt. Morris at Vienna Greens in Clio. Mt. Morris didn’t have enough golfers to post an official team score. Birch Run’s Cole Beldyga shot a 41 to lead the field, followed by teammates Garett Martinus (45), Mason Reis (47), Karter Knight (47) and Hayden Adams (49). Girls Tennis Nouvel 5, Frankenmuth 3: Nouvel went 3-1 in singles, giving the Panthers enough wins to overcome Frankenmuth. Nouvel’s singles winners were Caroline Shaheen, Jveen Murad and Elizabeth Garner, while Frankenmuth’s Avery Rittmueller won at No. 2 singles. The Eagles also won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles behind Mylie Jacob-Mya Donovan and Lou Grablick-Madison Ford. Nouvel followed with doubles wins from Gabi Thiel-Macey Hausbeck and Charli Hausbeck-Natalie Shaheen. Alma 8, Bridgeport 0: Alma rolled to a Tri-Valley Conference shutout, claiming all eight flights. Alma’s singles winners were Hailey Harkness, Jaymie Gladding, Kelsie Koves and Adrian Block. Doubles winners included Myla Lowell-Hailey Brandstetter, Emersyn Adams-Alahna Anderson, Kall Gray-Addisen Cooley and Mylia Marr-Abbigail Anderson.
