Saginaw-area sports highlights: Heritage takes over ‘Gotham City’ in SVL baseball sweep

Bay City became Gotham City for one afternoon, with Brady Gotham carrying a big bat in Heritage’s Saginaw Valley League baseball sweep Monday. Gotham supplied the pitching in the first game and the offense in both games, giving the Hawks an edge in a 2-1, 8-3 sweep over Bay City Central. He allowed three hits, no earned runs and three walks, striking out six in five innings to earn the Game 1 win. Matt Shaner earned the save with two innings of one-hit work. Gotham and Hudsen Hammond led the offense with two hits. Hammond earned the win in the second game, allowing five hits, one earned run and three walks in four innings, striking out five. Gotham and Jack Thompson had two hits each, with Thompson driving in three runs. Hammond added two RBIs. Chesaning 8-21, Otisville-LakeVille 1-9: Brady Sager threw a completing game, striking out nine in the Game 1 win to improve to 3-0. Adam Woodcock led the offense with three hits, three RBIs and two stolen bases. Max Volk followed with two hits and three runs. Game 2 was suspended at the top of the fifth because of darkness. Woodcock led the offense in the second game with three hits and two RBIs, while Sager had two hits, including a homer, with three walks, five RBIs, five runs and three stolen bases. Volk, Eli Keck, Jacob Zyrowski and Logan Vogelaar added two hits each. Cass City 11-7, Bullock Creek 5-7: Caden Tate and Palmer Richards had two hits each for Bullock Creek in the Game 1 loss, with Richards driving in three runs and Mason Strayer scoring two. The second game went five innings when it was called tied 7-7. Braden Swanson led the Lancers’ offense with two hits, while Tate and Jaxon Flowers added a hit and two walks each. Caro 14-7, Sandusky 1-5: Landyn Stine threw a four-hit shutout, striking out eight to earn the Game 1 win for Caro. Ramon Zamora Jr. led the Tigers with three hits and two RBIs, while Stine and Alex Wilcox drove in three runs each. Xander Grice and Trentin Hessling followed with two hits each, and Max Grice walked three times. Wilcox earned the Game 2 win with two shutout innings, while Xander Grice got the save with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Zamora Jr. had two hits for the offense, with Wyatt Waterman adding two RBIs, a hit and walk. Reese 7-10, Kingston 6-4: Breelie Louis struck out six to earn the Game 1 win for Reese, with Sydney DuRussel leading the offense with three hits. Jaidyn VanOchten followed with two hits and four stolen bases, while Grace Hall added two RBIs. Kylie Soper struck out 12 for the Game 2 win, allowing four hits. Ashtyn Frost had three hits and two RBIs for the Reese offense, with VanOchten adding two hits and Hall two RBIs. Panther Classic: Heritage’s Jacek Kubczak finished 1-under in his final three holes to edge out Alma’s Cooper Couch for medalist honors at the Panther Classic, hosted by Alma High School at Pine River Country Club. Kubczak finished with a 79 to lead Heritage to the team title with a 328, followed by Williamston (339) and Alma (350). Heritage’s Michael Kahl tied for third with an 81, and teammate Brock Allardyce was fifth with an 82. Alma’s Koby Shunk tied for seventh with an 85. Portland’s Max Weller aced the No. 7 hole. SVL Triangular at Grand Blanc: Saginaw United finished second in a Saginaw Valley League triangular with Grand Blanc and Davison. Grand Blanc was first with 63 points, followed by United with 43 and Davison with 22. Jamarion Goodman gave United a pair of first places in the 400 (:54.17) and 1,600 (4:45.39). Johnny Brown added a first in the 100 (:11.69) and legs on United’s winning 400 relay (:49.15) and 800 relay (1:38.42). The Phoenix also won the 1,600 relay (3:57.03), with Blake Jones taking first in the high jump (5-10). Girls Track SVL Triangular at Grand Blanc: Saginaw United finished third in an SVL triangular at Grand Blanc with 25 points. Grand Blanc won with 71 points, with Davison second (36). Jailey Jackson gave United a win in the shot put (26-11 ½), with United also claiming the 400 relay (:56.41). Girls Soccer Midland High 2, Davison 1: Ameris Blumenschein scored both Midland High goals, including the game-winner on a cross in front of the goal that bounced off a Davison defender into the goal in the second half to break a 1-1 tie. Blumenschein gave the No. 12-ranked Chemics a 1-0 halftime lead off an assist from Alahna Beckett. Elle Arnold had four saves in goal for Midland High, with Niobe Marchalant making three saves. Clare 2, Bullock Creek 1: After a scoreless first half, Brooke Stoltenberg gave Bullock Creek a 1-0 lead with 16 minutes remaining in the game. But Clare, which owned an 8-6 advantage in shots, followed with a pair of goals to claim the win. Audrie Stoltenberg made six saves in goal for the 2-2-3 Lancers. Girls Tennis Bay City John Glenn 7, Alma 1: Adrian Block claimed Alma’s lone win in the Tri-Valley Conference tennis match, earning a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 4 singles.
